JOB TITLE:                Electronic Diagnostic Technician

 

DEPARTMENT:         Maintenance

 

REPORTS TO:           Director of Maintenance

HOURLY PAY:           $25.72

 

JOB FUNCTION:     Diagnose malfunctions on electronic equipment, electrical problems, and perform electronic maintenance. Repair general electronic and electrical equipment and diagnose network and software malfunctions on MATA vehicles. Repairs of equipment must be consistent with FTA requirements and regulations. Maintain accurate service records as instructed by supervisor.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Install and maintain electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Use tools, wiring, and equipment to perform repairs. Rebuild and rewire electrical controls and components on MATA vehicles, equipment, and parts. This includes but is not limited to; bus wiring, switches and sensors, bus multiplex systems J1939 and other bus communication systems, Hybrid electrical systems and communication, I.T.S./Camera equipment, wireless modem and related equipment, ticket validators and related equipment, and destination signs.

2.   Analyze and use blueprints, schematics, and diagrams for repairs.

3.   Diagnose malfunctions of electronic systems as well as electrical problems with vehicles, equipment and mechanical (IT) network. Determine appropriate equipment and materials to complete work according to specifications, verbal instructions, or established procedures.

4.   Perform general vehicle and equipment repairs, such as on hybrid systems, Cummins software and ITS equipment, camera/wireless and fare collection equipment.

5.   Service vehicles electronic equipment, maintain collection equipment, destination signs, and ITS equipment.

6.   Maintain accurate service records. 

7.   Verify repairs made and determine road worthiness of serviced vehicles.

8.   Complete job assignments in timely manner.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  1. Pick up parts from supply warehouses and stores.
  2. Must possess electronic or electrical certification for diesel or electric buses and keep those certification (s) updated and current for the duration of employment
  3. Assume additional responsibilities as required.
  4. Interface with vendors to obtain or provide job specific information.
  5. Work with outside vendors on special projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High school diploma or GED required. Two years electronic or electrical degree a plus, but not a requirement.

 

  

Other:

1.   Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the diagnosing and troubleshooting of electronic and electrical problems.

2.   Must have a working knowledge of air and hydraulic systems. 

3.   Must possess a valid driver's license.

4.   Must be able to read and understand maintenance manuals and schematics, prepare work cards and work orders for repairs, and read and analyze diagrams and blueprints. 

5.   Must be able to secure and maintain a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with a Passenger (P) endorsement within one year of date of hire.

6.   Must be a self-starter, be self-motivated with a can-do attitude and able to work independently as required as well as be a team player.

7.   Must demonstrate a service-oriented attitude.

8.   Requires ability to handle numerous activities at one time and move between tasks.

9.   Able to organize tasks in accordance with company and department priorities and complete them efficiently and on time.

10. Must be willing to comply with the company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.

11. Must always comply with safety and COVID protocols.

12. Regular and consistent attendance is required.

13. Work records of current employees will be reviewed for satisfactory performance and minimum qualifications.

 

Environment:

1.  Extensive walking and standing in course of normal business day.

2.  Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. and be able to lift parts and materials overhead. 

3.  Requires the ability to withstand exposure to changing weather conditions, dust, engine odors, petroleum fluids and engines and shop noise levels. 

4.  Must be able to climb on a ladder or other equipment up to the height of a bus roof.

5.  Must be able to bend and kneel and crawl or stoop into tight areas and lay horizontal under a vehicle.

6.  Requires the ability to hear directions given; distinguish problems associated with the repair and troubleshooting of electronic equipment and parts; visually performing essential functions for satisfactory job performance.

7.  Must be capable of driving bus.
