JOB TITLE:            Fixed Route Run Dispatcher                                                         
DEPARTMENT:     Transit Operations 
REPORTS TO:        Director of Transit Operations 
PAYRATE:               $54,000 annually

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
1. Assign scheduled bus runs and extra work to bus operators daily.
2. Compile and input statistical data into the computer pertaining to bus operations.
3. Maintain bus operators work records.
4. Provide payroll information to the Finance Department regarding the completed runs for bus operators.
5. Monitor telephones and radios in the Dispatching Office.
6. Assist with monitoring security cameras.  

OTHER JOB DUTIES:
1. Responsible for supervising operations at shuttle locations during special events.
2. Responsible for booking charters and shuttle service.
3. Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: 
High school diploma or GED required. 

Other: 

  1. Minimum 3 years’ experience as a bus operator or equivalent in a related field necessary.
  2. Must have a working knowledge of existing MATA route system and the street network of the Memphis area. 
  3. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public. 
  4. Experience with personal computer equipment necessary; typing speed of 35-40 wpm.
  5. Requires ability to handle numerous activities at one time. 
  6. Ability to understand and interpret bus operator rules and regulations and Labor Agreement required.
  7. Must possess a Class B ("P" endorsement) Commercial Driver's License.
  8. Must be willing to comply with the company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  9. Regular and consistent attendance is required.
  10. Must always comply with safety and COVID protocols.

Environment:

  1. Extensive standing during normal business day, however some sitting is required during a normal workday.
  2. Requires ability to withstand exposure to weather conditions, dust, engine fumes and extreme noise levels.
  3. Requires ability to hear telephone and directions given; visually perform essential functions for satisfactory job performance. 
  4. Ability to view visual display terminal for extended periods of time. 
  5. Requires flexibility of fingers for data entry.
  6. Extensive sitting is required while using office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, or fax machines.
  7. Most work will be performed in inside working conditions but should be able to tolerate changes in building environments such as with or without air conditioning or heating.
  8. May be required occasionally to move up to 20 pounds by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise repositioning objects.
  9. Fingering and repetitive motions will be required for data entry, while picking items up or while filing. Able to express or exchange ideas with others accurately and at an easily audible volume through the use of spoken words.
  10. Able to receive detailed information through oral communication or by phone at usual speaking levels and differentiate between sounds in the environment.
  11. Close visual acuity to perform detail-oriented activities as well as acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control, and accuracy such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen or for significant reading of documents and other materials.
