Remote-first

Since March 2020, our Zoomers have worked remotely and reported an overall better work-life balance with more time for family and personal wellness.

At the end of 2021, LegalZoom made the official commitment to being a remote-first company. Remote-first means that there is no expectation that Zoomers come into an office for a fixed number of days outside of those employees identified as essential onsite workers. While we remain a remote-first culture, our local offices in Playa Vista, Mountain View, and Austin have evolved as collaboration spaces for Zoomers to meet and engage in person.

This position will be remote.

Overview

The Corporate Development & Strategy team works on M&A, new corporate growth initiatives, and other critical strategy projects across all of LegalZoom. The team is responsible for the entire lifecycle of corporate investments, from strategy development through to sourcing, evaluation, negotiation, execution, and integration of acquisitions. The team also owns LegalZoom's strategic planning initiatives and serves as the primary point of contact with investment banks, consulting firms, and other third-party advisors.

The team is growing following a number of acquisitions since LegalZoom's IPO to further expand its M&A efforts and tackle a growing number of new strategic initiatives. The team is looking for an experienced and highly strategic M&A professional that can lead internal deal teams and manage large and complex cross-functional projects. The role reports to the Sr. Director of Corporate Development and will work in partnership with the LegalZoom executive team and key senior business leaders.

 

 

You will

  • Proactively research competitive trends in LegalZoom's core markets and synthesize both qualitative and quantitative findings into actionable insights
  • Develop build, buy, partner recommendations for key strategic priorities working in close partnership with business and corporate teams
  • Define and update criteria for key M&A priorities to assist deal sourcing efforts and manage LegalZoom's broader M&A pipeline
  • Lead financial and business diligence with cross-functional teams and manage day-to-day workstreams and project management
  • Assist in the negotiation of M&A deals and work with legal, accounting, and other corporate functions to ensure deal obligations are met post-closing
  • Work in partnership with operating leaders to develop integration plans and milestones to execute deal theses for recently acquired targets
  • Coordinate across teams on a time sensitive basis to prepare and consolidate materials for executives and Board of Directors
  • Engage with internal business leaders to surface new business opportunities and escalate potential roadblocks to success
  • Manage LegalZoom's valuation framework (e.g., comps, models) and assist in ad-hoc projects in partnership with the corporate finance team

You have

  • 6-7+ years of work experience in investment banking, corporate development, and/or private equity
  • Experience managing both deal processes and other high impact corporate projects (e.g., strategy reviews, long range plans, etc.)
  • Track record of executing both small and large M&A transactions, ideally in a corporate or private equity setting
  • Comfort working through ambiguity to scope and frame strategy engagements in partnership with a diverse group of both internal and external stakeholders
  • Extensive financial modeling and valuation analysis experience
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Humble, ambitious, and self-motivated attitude with a practical, impact-driven mindset
  • Familiarity with key accounting principles and overall reporting processes
  • Familiarity with key deal documentation processes
  • Comfort working both as an individual contributor and as a project leader and manager
  • Comfort working across multiple time sensitive projects with competing priorities
  • Prior experience in SMB services and legaltech a plus but not required
  • Remote Employees should confirm that the internet service available has adequate bandwidth to support all work processes

 

 

LegalZoom is a remote-first company and the national range for this role is ($120,000 - $257,000). Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package. For onsite roles or roles that require periodic onsite visits, LegalZoom requires all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before starting work, unless precluded from doing so by applicable law. The CDC currently defines “fully vaccinated” as two weeks after the second dose for Pfizer and Moderna, and two weeks after the single dose of Johnson & Johnson. LegalZoom will require proof of vaccination before a successful applicant’s first day of work and will consider requests for exemption from this requirement during the offer phase (1) as a reasonable accommodation for medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs where the accommodation would not LegalZoom undue hardship or pose a direct threat to the health and safety of others, or (2) for other reasons under applicable law.
