Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is a hands-on position responsible for accuracy and integrity of financial transactions including facility accounting, asset management, and reviewing, revising financial data, and implementing internal control. The Accounting Manager will report to the Controller and is responsible for working with the finance, real estate/facility, accounting team members to build a scalable and efficient financial infrastructure, providing exceptional service and support to our schools, and ensuring their continued financial success. This position is based at KIPP Northern California Regional Support Office. The Accounting Manager is a critical member of the Regional Support Office and will work closely with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate for this position demonstrates strong technical ability, problem-solving skills, and is incredibly detail-oriented and organized. S/he must be an excellent communicator who enjoys working with people and learning many new tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years related experience with proven accounting skills-preferably in an educational institution or non-profit organization
  • Demonstrated expertise in spreadsheet and accounting software applications such as Sage Intacct; experience with google office platforms. 
  • Previous audit experience is preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required - preferably in Business or Accounting

Knowledge/skills required:

  • Knowledge of US GAAP and experience in non-profit accounting
  • Strong fundamental core accounting background (from general ledger to journal entries to reviewing financial statements and annual budgets). 
  • Ability to efficiently process a high volume of accounting entries, such as general journal entries. 
  • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills. 
  • Solutions-oriented approach to problem solving. 
  • High level of flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate a high level of responsibility and multiple priorities. 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, non-profit environment

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for organizational asset management which requires strong relationship management with various stakeholders across multiple departments
  • Familiar with depreciation and able to complete the end of the year schedule for multiple locations.
  • Oversee the accuracy of accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger transactions
  • Facility accounting and supporting the Real Estate and Facility team on closing multi million dollar projects. 
  • Oversee credit card processing to ensure alignment with fiscal policies and procedures
  • Partner with HR to ensure the accuracy of payroll and benefit general ledger entries into the accounting system
  • Assist with end of the year closing and annual financial audit preparation
  • Reinforce fiscal policies and procedures in daily accounting practices
  • School operation support and thought partner with Accounts Receivable Associate

    Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

    Physical: Ability to use a computer for long periods of time, ability to participate in conference and video calls.  

    Mental: stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

    Environmental: Office environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions.  Occasional school environment and travel. In an emergency context (e.g., pandemic), work may be conducted virtually fully or partially for extended periods of time or longer, and the expectation is that the individual will establish a productive, remote work environment (e.g., ability to stay connected through different technology means). It may require remote work as current public health guidelines warrant.

    Classification

    Full-time, exempt position based on Regional Support Office (RSO) calendar and time-off policy.
