Position Summary
KIPP seeks enthusiastic, driven, and mission-driven individuals for the role of KIPP Family Ambassador. Successful Family Ambassadors will drive forward the implementation of a targeted student recruitment plan to achieve our schools’ enrollment goals, including activities like community outreach, new family engagement, and direct new student recruitment that generate applications from new prospective families. Family Ambassadors will also receive training to deepen partnership with existing families community leaders, expand KIPP’s community of families, and create sustaining connections with new families in our schools' community.
Through a full-time commitment of 40 hours each week, Family Ambassadors will work within the Enrollment Team and on behalf of school teams to implement recruitment and outreach activities, managing leads, connect with the broader school community, help raise the awareness and visibility of KIPP, and support new families through KIPP’s enrollment process.
This role is a non-exempt, 40 hours per week, full-time position that may require work on some weekends, evenings and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
  • Experience with recruitment-related work advocacy organization, business, nonprofit, or education service preferred. 
  • Proven experience organizing and working within teams or volunteers toward a common goal.
  • Service-oriented, able to adapt to a changing environment while applying flexibility to work under pressure and remain calm in the midst of competing demands. 
Knowledge/skills required:

  • Credible amongst peers, a connector mindset, and welcoming of all communities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with and cultivate support from a diverse range of community members .
  • Familiarity with information communication technologies including google productivity tools like gmail, shared documents, and video conferencing tools like ZOOM.

  • Available 40 hrs per week, including attending regularly scheduled weekly one-on-one meetings, team meetings, and monthly professional development training workshops.
  • Strong communication skills. Spoken and written language skills other than English are welcome.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between campuses and to and from community events / meetings. Mileage for work travel is reimbursable.
  • Experience using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool preferred.
  • Strongly prefer fluency in spoken and written Spanish.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Support the implementation of family and student recruitment activities to drive new applications
  • Implement outreach activities to recruit new families and students to KIPP, including flyering, phonebanking, canvassing, and tabling in the school community.
  • Identify and plan for opportunities to participate in events around your community throughout the year. 
  • Coordinate ongoing activities for outreach with school and central office teams on a weekly basis.
  • Connect with and support current and prospective families and students throughout the enrollment process.

 

Community outreach
  • Identify and develop partnerships with community based organizations that could amplify or promote KIPP through their networks, events, and other communications.
  • Support the implementation of community and family events on school campuses.

 

Strengthen the partnership between current KIPP families and the school community
  • Support activities to strengthen family engagement and participation in the school community.
  • Serve as one point of contact for current families, improving the responsiveness of the school and gathering feedback from the families in an effort to improve the family experience.

 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands
Physical: Ability to talk to people and hold meetings in different spaces. Must be able to navigate in a variety of spaces. Much of the day may involve walking. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead
Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, memorize and recall objects and people.
Environmental: Canvassing, tabling, and flyering in the field will require work outdoors and occasional classroom/school environment and 30% of time on site around the KIPP San Francisco community of schools.
Classification and schedule
Full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. Based on the Regional Support Office calendar and time of policy.
