Credit Analyst

Role Description

 

The Credit Analyst is responsible for managing an assigned portfolio of new and existing complex credit files with the goal of maximizing revenue and liquidity, while minimizing bad debt expense.  This will involve conducting formal credit reviews for both new and existing credit within the established Levels of Authority (LOA), as well as establishing agreed terms of trade to customers in conjunction with Sales Management and the Manager, Credit.

 

The Credit Analyst will work with the Sales team to ensure adherence to the Credit Policy and collaborate to make sound judgements regarding customer sales and credit decisions.  In addition, the Credit Analyst will work closely with the Supervisor, Credit and Credit Management team and will provide mentorship to the Credit Representatives.

 

Core Responsibilities

 

Credit File Adjudication

  • Evaluate customer credit worthiness of complex or large credit customers by use of internal and external credit reports and through financial statement analyses
  • Make credit recommendations within established guidelines and LOAs
  • Properly utilize Credit Tools and Technology
  • Ensure compliance to credit policy and code of ethics

 

Credit Portfolio Management

  • Conduct periodic review of customer base and adjustment of customer credit limits as needed per established LOAs
  • Manage credit hold/releases per the established credit policy and systems configuration settings
  • Monitor changes in customer and AR portfolio risk
  • Focus on protecting company commercial interests & legal rights
  • Foster a professional collaborative relationship with internal and external customers to resolve matters that impact billings, receivables and liquidity

 

Credit Team Leadership and Support

  • Provide coaching and training support to Credit Representative
  • Participate in recruitment process when requested
  • Support Supervisor, Credit with rollout and maintenance of credit metrics and performance measures

 

Credit Knowledge Development

  • Maintain appropriate financial analysis skills in order to review financial statements (balance sheets, income statements of existing and potential customers to support the credit exposure)
  • Maintain an understanding of industry and economic trends
  • Research and participate in formal credit management education and training courses as well as participate in setting training and education objectives/goals for the credit team

 

Work Experience

  • Minimum 4 years Commercial Credit Management experience

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient use of MS Office suite (Excel, Word)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced/multi-task environment
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of analytics / ratios related to credit
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Great customer service
  • Bilingual in French would be an asset

 

Education

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Working towards Commercial Credit Administration Program (CCAP) certification, or equivalent credit sector experience
