Senior Data Engineer
Description
- Research and implement new technologies to keep ahead of the increasing demand for data and analytics.
- Apply big-data techniques and tools to cleanse, transform and load data at scale.
- Leverage the Azure stack of technologies in areas such as automation and artificial intelligence to reduce manual effort and time to deliver.
- Ensure consistency, scalability, useability and security of our platform and assets.
- Design and oversee the implementation of mechanisms allowing for edge data to flow back into business and analytics systems.
- Analyze requirements to recommend, design and implement solutions for extracting and loading data at scale.
- Enrich and curate data according to established standards and processes.
- Define new standards and processes necessary to sustain and extend Kal Tire’s Medallion architecture.
- Design and oversee the implementation of processes and technologies that support our Information Protection and Data Governance Strategy
- Enable Enterprise and Department-Level Projects via the enrichment and extension of our data flow architecture, request and deployment processes.
- Participate in Kal Tire’s IS Architectural Governance practice and provide guidance and recommendations to Initiatives reviewed under Governance.
- Administer Kal Tire’s Microsoft Fabric Infrastructure, as well as Azure PaaS Analytics Services in use;
- Analyze and suggest enhancements for reoccurring failures, support requests and incidents. Deep dive on highly technical support issues with other Senior Engineers and Support Partners as required.
- Provide on-call support for issues and escalations as required.
- Minimum 10 years general IS experience.
- Minimum of 10 years experience supporting and developing data, reporting and analytical platforms at a medium-large size organization or relevant combination of education and experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure including resources, resource groups, identity and permissions, cost analysis, automation accounts, log analytics, alerts, etc.
- Experience with the Azure data platform. Ideal candidate has experience with all the following: Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Azure Synapse Link, Azure Data Lake, Power BI, Delta Lake, Logic Apps, Power Apps.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric: Notebooks, Pipelines, Lakehouses, Functions, and Environment Administration.
- Experience working in an Agile Development environment; ideal candidate has used Azure Dev Ops to plan and participate in intake, backlog management, project completion and sprint activities.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL, Python, Scala, KQL, DAX, Azure Automation Accounts, Logic Apps, Power Apps and the Power Platform
- Working knowledge of GIT including making branches, commits, pull requests and merges.
- Awareness of and exposure to new and up-in-coming technologies in the BI/Analytics/Azure space
- Extensive knowledge of incremental loading patterns and a strong ability to extend and improve those patterns.
- Ability to quickly understand business problems and apply new, often unknown tools and techniques to solve the problem.
- Able to understand and empathize with customer needs and challenges.
- Able to coach, educate and inspire clients to enable their own analytic programs.
- Comfortable balancing the needs of the customer with the needs of the team.
- Ability to self-teach/learn new technologies, software languages, APIS independently and with minimal support.
- Post-secondary graduate with a degree, diploma or certificate in computer science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Evening and occasional weekend work may be required.
- Ability to participate in on-call after hours support rotation will be required.
- The target salary range for this position is $116,120 to $145,610 per year based on experience.
