Based in Kamloops, BC, Chiliwack, BC or Edmonton, AB
Role Description
The Dispatcher is responsible for supervising transportation services and activities at Kal Tire warehouses. They effectively and efficiently plan and direct transport operations, plan drivers' dispatch, assign loads to drivers according to customer needs and driver capabilities and ensure that all loads are accurately processed and delivered.
Core Responsibilities
Transport Operations
- Provide day to day direction and control of trucking operations to ensure timely and accurate processing of shipments and the proficient operation of all terminal activities.
- Plan and create activities within Microsoft D365 for outbound delivery routes.
- Liaise with the warehouse team to ensure all outbound loads are planned daily, and overflows are dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Work with warehouse staff to complete required trailer and container moves between yard, docks and container storage.
- Ensure weights and capacity of outbound loads are correct and work with the warehouse team to adjust as necessary.
- Implement and monitor performance metrics for transportation and work with management team to enhance improvement of processes.
- Ensure compliance with company standards for quality, safety and on-time delivery.
- Liaise with other operating locations to maximize equipment efficiency and utilization.
Dispatch
- Schedule assignments and coordinate activities of drivers and equipment to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of outbound load execution. Schedule route changes when necessary.
- Track shipments from pickup through delivery so that accurate, up-to-date information can be provided regarding any shipment.
- Ensure customers' freight is picked up, transported, and delivered in accordance with customer requirements.
Team Supervision
- Plan and dispatch drivers across the country as needed by site and seasonal needs.
- Act as the support on-call point of contact on 24hrs / 7 days a week basis for drivers
- Ensure full compliance of all drivers to all organizational policies and procedures as well as legislative rules and regulations.
Fleet Management
- Maximize the lifecycle and utilization of all equipment and maintain accurate and up-to-date records to ensure compliance with all company and provincial / federal requirements by overseeing a preventative maintenance program.
- To keep track of maintenance dates and repairs on all units.
Health and Safety
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial and local safety standards / laws.
- Instill a culture of safety within the team; coach and mentor on best practice that ensure driver, customer and public safety.
- Ensure safety protocols and procedures are in place at all times and promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits and meetings.
Reporting / Regulations
- Utilize telematics software to oversee electronic driver logbooks and vehicle usage data
Customer Service
- Observe customer transactions and trends to continually enhance and improve customer satisfaction.
Work Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ dispatch experience
- Strong background in the transportation industry within preference given to class 1 driving experience or previous experience directly supervising class 1 drivers

Education
- Grade 12 or higher
Special Requirements
- Must be willing to be on-call - 24/7 availability required
- Possess a Valid Driver's License

What we offer
- Competitive compensation package. The target compensation for this role is $72,000 to $80,000 per year based on experience. We offer a clear path for career advancement with wage increases along the way.
