Role:

 

The Category Leadership Manager plays a pivotal role in developing SPF business in the retail chain environment.  Working closely with internal and external resources, the Category Leadership Manager is responsible for developing critical insights, solutions, and strategic and tactical category action plans for our customers. The Category Leadership Manager is the primary representative to the customer for all category leadership activities. This position addresses complex business opportunities by triangulating data from multiple data sources, tools and analytics, shopper insights and solutions into persuasive communications and succinct storytelling resulting in retailer activations. These responsibilities are accomplished by working collaboratively with the account selling team to build strong relationships with retailers and distributor partners.

The Category Leadership Manager will be an expert in our categories and work closely with the Client’s Category Buyer in providing information, category recommendations, planogram and promotional item discussions. 

Exhibiting accountability and dependability, the CLM is proactive, collaborative, logical, highly flexible in analytical approach, and able to focus on desired outcomes, not just reactive, quick solutions.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • The Category Leadership Manager will also play a pivotal role in providing support & information to the category sales team on brand performance, competitive opportunities, and trends.         
  • Use and understand IRI/Nielsen, shopper/loyalty card and internal proprietary data and systems to generate actionable insights that will help drive category insights with retail and distributor partners, address issues, or capitalize on opportunities to drive sales growth.
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain strong relationships with key accounts
  • Leverage relationships to explore business opportunities throughout the retailer
  • Support will include all aspects of category management including data analysis, planogram maintenance and special projects
  • Be able to analyze and understand consumer data and drive insightful sell stories
  • Prepare and present strategic insights to customers to support selling initiatives and secure alignment of strategic and tactical plans at multiple levels of the organization
  • Create compelling fact-based analysis on portfolio, consumer data, baseline distribution opportunities, and promotional opportunities
  • Become an expert in the applicable retail data system, and create and run ad hoc reports for fact-based sales presentations, category management analysis, business analysis, etc.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (Analytical and/ or Research Field preferred) .
  • 4-6 years of experience in category management and /or Insight role in consumer goods
  • Food channel experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of chain sales, retail and distributor operations
  • Strong project management abilities. Capable of prioritizing and handling multiple projects simultaneously under tight time constraints
  • Strong communication skills; with ability to articulate effectively both verbally and in written form and build relationships quickly

 

Technical

•  Strong Microsoft Suite skills (Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) with ability to manipulate and create and manipulate pivot tables. Ability to put together compelling, easy to understand, visually appealing presentations.

• Space Management Software experience or Space Planning is required

• Syndicated Data experience with IRI, Nielsen insights data is required.

• Demonstrated ability of strong analysis skills
