Responsibilities and Expectations: 

We are looking for talented Junior (Co-op) Technicians to join our team.  This is a part-time/temporary position that will provide high-school and/or secondary students the opportunity to pursue a career in industrial services.

Co-op opportunities could exist for the following positions: Mechanics, Utility Operators, Manual Machinists, CNC Machinists, and Winders.  As a Junior (Co-op) technician for IPS, you will apply innovative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail and customer focus to repair industrial pumps, AC/DC electric motors, generators, gearboxes, or create CNC parts while supporting our continuous improvement process culture.

On-the-job training may include:

  • Basic motor documentation- learning the importance of a motor nameplate
  • Learning and utilizing the basic principles of measuring tools, metal working tools,       electric drills, grinders, and wrenches
  • Disassembly of electrical apparatus: Electric Motors, Fans, Pump, and gearboxes
  • Inspecting and cleaning of parts: remove grease and dirt, remove corrosion, check for evidence of wear or rubbing
  • Assist in making gaskets, bearing installation, and basic mechanical tasks
  • Run CNC machines under supervision.

Qualifications and Competencies: 

  • Able to perform basic math functions
  • Be 17 years of age
  • Capability to follow instructions given by the trainer
  • A willingness to “get your hands dirty” while working on rotating equipment. (All protective gear will be provided)
  • Able to understand, perform, and retain various job-related training, operational, and safety procedures
  • Strong technical and mechanical skills
  • Self-starter and highly motivated personality
  • Ability to work 15-20 hours a week

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 lbs.
