Responsibilities & Expectations: 

 

The Machinist is responsible for performing a wide range of machining operations to repair, modify, and manufacture mechanical components used in electrical and rotating equipment such as motors, generators, turbines, pumps, gearboxes, switchgear, and transformers. This position requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong mechanical aptitude to ensure all parts and assemblies meet exacting quality standards and customer specifications.

  • Set up and operate various machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and shapers, to perform precision machining operations.
  • Perform complex machining work requiring close tolerances, intricate setups, and development of unique or one-of-a-kind parts.
  • Dismantle, inspect, diagnose, and repair or reassemble mechanical components of rotating electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Manufacture or modify parts based on engineering drawings, samples, or measurements.
  • Perform machining and assembly operations for a variety of electrical equipment.
  • Conduct basic mechanical inspections and ensure all work meets required specifications, tolerances, and safety standards.
  • Support plating, boring, sleeving, and turning operations as required.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and correcting mechanical or dimensional issues encountered during machining or assembly.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Train and/or direct less experienced machinists or helpers as assigned.
  • Perform related duties and special assignments as directed by supervision.
  • Assembly/disassembly of transformer components.
  • Machining on a variety of base materials ranging from steel, stainless, and aluminum to wood, composites, and phenolics.

 

Qualifications and Competencies: 

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school training preferred.
  • 2–10 years of machining experience depending on skill level (D through A).
  • Strong knowledge of machining practices, measuring tools, and mechanical assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to produce basic mechanical drawings
  • Ability to operate both CNC and manual lathes and mills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in setup, operation, and maintenance of manual machine tools.
  • Understanding of safe work practices and proper use of PPE in a shop environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and nights as required

 

Physical Requirements: 

 

  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting (up to 40 lbs), and use of hand tools.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time   
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 40 lbs.

Pay Rate Details: $27.98 - $43.87/hour
