Design Engineer
Description
Hearth & Home Technologies is looking for a Design Engineer to join our team in Mt. Pleasant, IA. As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in developing innovative hearth products that combine performance, safety, and aesthetic appeal. You’ll lead major design projects, collaborate across departments, and help bring new products from concept to production. This is an opportunity to influence the next generation of industry‑leading fireplace and stove solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead large-scale product development projects from concept through launch
- Develop original design solutions that meet performance, safety, and aesthetic requirements
- Create and execute design test protocols and perform standard performance testing
- Build functional prototypes and conduct testing to support product development
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and other teams to ensure smooth transitions into production
- Produce and maintain engineering documentation, data, and reports
- Facilitate and lead DFMEA and 3P events
- Mentor Design Engineer team members and support peer development
- Troubleshoot design challenges and communicate effectively with project stakeholders
- Support product revisions and improvements for existing product lines
- Present prototypes, concepts, and project updates to cross-functional teams
- Serve as a technical resource for field issues
- Ensure all designs meet internal standards and external agency requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 4+ years of engineering experience, including at least 2 years as a Design Engineer
- Demonstrated success leading major engineering projects
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
- Ability to interpret complex technical data and engineering drawings
- Experience with 2D/3D CAD tools
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong cross-functional relationships
- Hands-on prototyping skills, including use of hand tools and CNC equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing products from concept through launch
- Familiarity with engineering analysis software
- Knowledge of combustion and heat transfer principles, especially within the hearth products industry
