JOB SUMMARY

The Preconstruction Engineer (PE) is primarily responsible for assisting preconstruction managers and administrators with budgets, schedules, plans, submittals, procurement, and maintaining project files for newly awarded projects. The PE may also be required to assist estimators with preparation of bid documents, solicitation of subcontractors/vendors, performing quantity takeoffs, obtaining bonding documents, and delivering proposal documents to the client. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Assist with preparation of project budgets, which will include transfer of the estimate into the budget;
  • Assist with and prepare project schedules, including the initial baseline schedule and monthly update schedules;
  • Assist with and prepare preconstruction plans (e.g., Quality Control (QC) Plan, Accident Prevention Plan, Environmental Protection Plan, Waste Management Plan, Site Plan, etc.);
  • Assist with and prepare monthly invoices to the client;
  • Assist with and prepare preconstruction submittals (e.g., product data, shop drawings, and certificates;
  • Assist with procurement of subcontractors and vendors, to include preparation of purchase requisitions, preparation of scope of work (SOW), preparation of schedule of values (SOV), and follow-up via phone and email; and
  • Maintain neatly organized project files on SharePoint and file names.

Additional duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform pre-bid visits;
  • Perform quantity take-offs in support of estimating activities;
  • Contact suppliers and subcontractors to obtain price quotes;
  • Assist with bonds (prepare bond request form, obtain signatures and corporate seal on the bid bond form);
  • Assist with preparation of proposal documents including cover letter, technical approach, and schedule; and
  • Deliver proposal documents to the client.

  • Must be a good monitor and decision maker;
  • Must have comprehension for written or verbal graphic instructions; and
  • Must possess good communication skills both written and spoken in English.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management preferred;
  • 1-5 years of experience in the construction industry;
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 preferred;
  • Construction Quality Control certification preferred;
