Position Title:  Unexploded Ordnance Technician II

JOB SUMMARY

Unexploded Ordnance Technicians identify all types of discarded military munitions. They locate, extract, move, and consolidate any discarded military munitions. Unexploded Ordnance Technicians prepare firing systems, inspect materials to determine risks, and transport demolition materials.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to being able to fully perform all of the UXO Technician I functions, UXO Technician II personnel may:

  • Properly store explosive materials per applicable guidance;
  • Determine precise location in field environment using a variety of techniques such as use of global positioning equipment, or basic land navigation techniques using topographical map and compass;
  • Perform field collection procedures to identify contaminated soil;
  • Prepare an on-site holding area to temporarily stow munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) that has an acceptable risk of movement.
  • Operate modes of transportation for transporting UXO, for which the risk of movement has been determined acceptable, when appropriate.
  • Perform limited technical supervision of UXO Clearance/Sweep personnel;
  • Escort personnel who are not directly involved in UXO related operations but have activities to perform within exclusion areas.
  • Inspect material potentially presenting an explosive hazard (MPPEH) for the presence of explosive safety hazards.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of a qualified explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) school.  As an exception, a UXO II may be a graduate of a qualified UXO school and have at least three years commercial UXO experience, as per DDESB TP18
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification IAW 29 CFR 1910.120
  • Current 29 CFR 1910.120 HAZWOPER Physical
  • Ability to work outside normal work hours at short notice as dictated by work load
  • Ability to work away from primary work location in excess of normal work day
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Valid Driver License and ability to travel outside the US
