Are you passionate about designing infrastructure that supports safe, reliable water services for your community? EPCOR’s Engineering & Technical Services team is looking for a Water Design Engineer (Reliability Engineer) to help shape the future of our water pipe assets.
As part of our Pipe Asset Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering design services across a variety of capital programs and projects. You’ll collaborate with project managers, asset planners, operations, and construction teams to ensure our designs meet rigorous standards and serve the long-term needs of our communities.

What You’ll Be Doing
Â
- Acting as the Owner’s Engineer for Asset Protection and Land Agreements, ensuring EPCOR’s infrastructure is safeguarded when third-party work is happening nearby.
- Reviewing and updating Volume 4 (Water) Design and Construction Standards, working closely with subject matter experts and the private development community to keep standards current and aligned with EPCOR’s goals.
- Evaluating external submissions (e.g., from the City of Edmonton) by:
- Assessing potential impacts on water and wastewater infrastructure
- Ensuring compliance with EPCOR’s latest standards
- Coordinating internal feedback and delivering clear, timely responses
- Overseeing and authenticating in-house water pipe asset designs, including delegating design tasks to engineering technologists
- Collaborating with project managers and design teams to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery

Key Responsibilities
Â
As the Water Design Engineer (Reliability Engineer), reporting to the Engineer Support Services Manager, you will contribute to the success of EPCOR’s Pipe Asset Engineering team by:
- Strategic & Technical Leadership
- Contribute to the development and execution of Pipe Asset Engineering plans, ensuring alignment with EPCOR’s broader strategy.
- Define and deliver short- to medium-term (3–12 month) engineering objectives that support the business plan.
- Identify budget requirements to support successful implementation of assigned design programs.
- Monitor and report on performance metrics to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with internal teams across engineering, operations, and planning to ensure cross-functional accountability and integration.
- Provide technical support to Engineering Design Services and other teams as needed.
- Support wastewater design initiatives on an as-needed basis.

What You Bring to the Role
Â
Education & Professional Credentials
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in engineering and construction of municipal water or pipeline infrastructure.
- Solid understanding of engineering principles and practices related to the design, planning, and construction of water systems.
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of pressurized pipe system design and construction.
- Ability to analyze technical data and produce clear, concise reports.
- Comfortable learning and using engineering software and digital tools.
Assets:
- Familiarity with hydraulic modelling.
- Experience working with GIS platforms.
- Knowledge of water infrastructure design and construction standards.
Communication & Collaboration
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills — able to convey complex information clearly and logically.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.

Additional Details About the Role
Â
- This is a full-time, professional-level position, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
