We are hiring a full-time permanent Technologist, Substation Facilities Management working out of Hugh J. Bolton Service Center located in Edmonton, AB.

The Technologist, Substation Facilities Management is accountable for managing EDTI’s substation facilities. This includes ensuring that assets are inspected, maintained, repaired and tracked in the asset registry with time spans (longest target completion time) of up to 3-12 months.

The Technologist, Substation Facilities Management is accountable to the Manager, Transmission Asset Management, and operates within the context and prescribed limits established by the Manager.

 

What You’d Be Responsible For

  • Provide input to the Transmission substation facilities plans and directions, and ensure on-going appropriate relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Analyze and identify issues impacting operational performance and establish initiatives for continuous improvement to ensure productivity, quality, reliability, cost effective, and on time delivery of Transmission Operational plans.
  • Monitor the performance, condition, criticality and reliability of substation building systems such as, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, vegetation management and security systems.
  • Generate, prepare and monitor implementation of annual maintenance programs for the building components, including but not limited to, fire protection, emergency generators, lighting, snow/ice clearing operations, lawn maintenance and weed control program.
  • Respond to emergencies such as power failures, security incidents, floods and fires.
  • Define scope and supervise work of maintenance personnel and hired contractors for repairs, including scheduling site supervision.
  • Create and manage work orders in the CMMS, review returned work orders from Operations and check for completion, coordinate follow-up actions and collaborate with other asset managers and design engineers as required.
  • Plan and schedule life cycle replacement requirements, including writing narratives, business cases, and post implementation reviews in support of General Tariff Applications.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external groups within the context of the asset management group.
  • Develop, implement and review facilities asset management processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and codes and ensure mitigation of risks.
  • Demonstrate a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working.

 

What’s Required to be Successful

  • Degree with equivalent experience background or two-year diploma in Building Engineering Technology, Building Systems Engineering Technology or Electrical Systems from a recognized post-secondary educational institute.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Facility management and building systems.
  • FMP or CFM Certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience working within and around energized substations is considered an asset.
  • Experience leading small projects from conception through construction.
  • Ability to manage trade personnel, including contractors.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to interface with all levels in the organization.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Experience with computer applications (Microsoft Office).
