We are hiring a full time, permanent Senior Advisor, Communications working out of Edmonton, AB.

The Senior Advisor, Communications is accountable for consulting internal clients to assess communication needs and for delivering strategies that help to achieve business and corporate goals. Through effective collaboration, this role develops and executes strategic communications plans that support business and corporate objectives. The position provides communications counsel, develops and delivers content through appropriate communication channels, and evaluates results to continuously improve effectiveness and audience engagement.

 

This individual also engages directly with partners and internal clients and seeks continuous improvement to create customer interactions that achieve the organization’s business and reputation goals. Required outcomes are achieved with time spans of up to 12 months. As needed, this position also supports issues management and emergency response activities.

 

The Senior Advisor, Communications is accountable to the Manager, Communications and operates within the context and prescribed limits established by Associate Director, Operational Communications.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

  • Develop and deliver strategic communications plans and products to engage and inform customers and employees about business priorities, projects, and initiatives, while leading the collaborative tactical execution of complex, multi-faceted communication projects.
  • Provide input to the Manager, Communications’ plans and directions as they relate to the business’ external and internal communications goals and maintain effective working relationships with corporate communications functions, including internal communications, social media, web and marketing teams, to stay informed of plans, share best practices, identify collaboration opportunities and improve efficiency.
  • Adhere to a high editorial standard and best practices in writing, editing content for channels that include  employee communications, leadership communications, websites, briefing notes, presentations and promotional materials, ensuring content is clear, audience appropriate and aligned with business objectives.
    Develop and execute digital communications strategies:
  • Lead the creation and implementation of digital communication strategies that align with the business unit’s goal and enhance engagement and the customer experience.
  • Manage the full project lifecycle for digital communications initiatives, including planning, scheduling, delivering and measuring projects to meet business requirements.
  • Develop, create and manage social media content and campaigns, including content planning, publishing, monitoring and performance reporting, to support business objectives and maintain a consistent brand presence.
  • Monitor channel performance emerging communications trends, platform changes and digital best practices to improve effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Develop project briefs and coordinating design projects, while understanding EPCOR’s Brand Standards and applying them appropriately to all communications.
  • Recommend process improvements that enhance the customer and employee experience through the use of research, audience insights, channel performance metrics and data-driven evaluation.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with business partners, subject to obtain information, insights and resources required to support communications planning, content development, community engagement activities and evaluation.
  • Act as an on-call, after-hours media liaison on a rotating weekly basis with other communicators.
  • Engage directly with partners and customers to advance EPCOR positions and resolve concerns.

What’s required to be successful

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, PR, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent education and experience).
  • 4 to 6 years of communications experience.
  • Strong internal and external communications background.
  • Experience with digital and social media communications.
  • Skilled in developing strategic communication materials and presentations.
  • Knowledge of employee engagement, audience insights, and customer experience.
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills and strong project management and communication planning abilities.
  • Able to build relationships and advise stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with media relations, issues management, and emergency communications.
  • Utility industry and Alberta power market knowledge is an asset.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, project management tools, and analytics platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to communicate clearly and apply conflict resolution skills.
  • Applies sound communications/public relations/marketing fundamentals to projects and initiatives
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and SharePoint, to develop, publish and manage communication materials and digital content.
  • Experience managing social media channels and digital communications tools, including content planning, publishing, community engagement, performance measurement and analytics
  • Experience using social media content editing tools like CapCut and AdobePro
  • Demonstrates a continuous improvement and customer-focused mindset.

The ideal candidate should also be able to demonstrate effective time management skills and the ability to deal with conflicting priorities as well as demonstrated problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills.

Wage: Starting from $53.92 - $64.26 per hour (Final Wage and step will be determined at the time of selection)
