Civil Engineer Position Description 

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to join our team in Austin, TX. This licensed professional will lead civil site and water/wastewater projects from conception to completion, operating with minimal supervision and exercising strong independent judgment. The role is responsible for delivering large or technically complex projects, overseeing project design and delivery, managing small project teams, and ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and exceptional client satisfaction.

The ideal candidate is a motivated Civil Engineer ready to embrace an exciting new challenge, with deep civil engineering expertise and an established network within the Austin region. Experience in business development is strongly preferred, as this individual will play a key role in growing our civil engineering presence in the Austin area and collaborating closely with the firm’s current engineering leadership.

Civil Engineer Position Salary Range*

The expected salary range for this position is $88,000 to $115,000 annually.

Civil Engineer Required Qualifications** 

  • ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited degree in Civil Engineering
  • 10+ years of job-related experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the state in which Cushing Terrell is hiring
  • Advanced expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficient in WaterCAD and Autodesk Storm, Sanitary Analysis, ArcGIS, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong capability in civil site grading, drainage, utility layout, and infrastructure design
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable codes, permitting, and jurisdictional processes
  • Ability to prepare and review full construction plan sets and specifications
  • Ability to prepare engineering calculations, hydraulic modeling, and cost estimates
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate small teams
  • Ability to manage project scope, schedule, and workload
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Effective client communication skills
  • Ability to operate independently while escalating strategic issues appropriately

Civil Engineer Position Responsibilities*** 

  • Prepare civil site, grading, drainage, roadway, and utility plans using Civil 3D
  • Perform water and wastewater system modeling using WaterCAD, StormCAD, and Storm & Sanitary Analysis
  • Prepare engineering calculations, cost estimates, technical memorandums, and reports
  • Support projects from concept through final design
  • Conduct code research and coordinate with regulatory agencies
  • Participate in client meetings and project interviews
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Meet with clients to determine project goals, needs, functional requirements, and budgets
  • Prepare fee proposals and preliminary cost estimates
  • Provide construction administration, including field observation and submittal review
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and firm quality standards
  • Contribute to and support the team's technical growth
  • Maintain project contractual obligations for scope, schedule, and fee
  • Develop creative engineering solutions to project challenges

*Actual pay will be determined based on the candidate’s years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
