CJ Logistics loves collaboration and a team environment.  Therefore, this role is located at our Corporate Office in Des Plaines, IL and has a hybrid work arrangement (3 days on site and 2 days remote).  Candidates must live within a commutable distance to the corporate office. 

Position Overview:

Accountable for building subject matter expertise in all Transportation Technology functional areas and technical proficiency in all integrated or support systems and solutions. Facilitating the development of

best in class Tools and workflow to enable Operations Efficiency and actionable information to realize value for the customer. 


The selected Director Transportation IT candidate will

·  Demonstrate proven leadership skills, with intuitive people skills and a strategic mindset.

·  Have a proven track record of supporting the sales efforts and subsequently successful end to end delivery of multi-million-dollar programs.

·  Have a proven successful track record delivering complex programs within a greater business community to realize customers digital transformation objectives.


As a key member of the CJ Logistics IT Group, you are expected to:

·   Provide leadership and direction to orchestrate the overall delivery of highly complex programs.

·  Demonstrate proven experience to foster and manage successful relationships with senior executive stakeholders aligning expectations and achieving successful program outcomes.

·   Lead effective executive stakeholder management practices.

·    Partner with Account teams, drive Steering Committees to successful outcomes.

· Orchestrate the delivery ecosystem across a varied environment of technology and partners, connecting cross-functional, and virtual project teams to deliver a successful program.

·  Manage and facilitate client problem and solution escalation process serving as a liaison with CJ Logistics Senior Leadership to ensure effective resolution.

· Continually demonstrate a growth mindset, acquiring new skills whilst maintaining your development and adaptability.   


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

·   Develop and implement the Tech Strategy for Transportation 

enhance and evaluate Transportation Management Systems, related applications of integrated solutions and projects. This will include in-house development activity as well as third-party packaged applications. Develop, implement and manage the transportation it roadmap. Define and implement communications and reporting for key stakeholders to CJ Logistics America Executives, Transportation Management Center Leadership, Customers, Logistics Centers, and the Transportation Management Center operations and business partners to assure timely and consistent information flow.

·    Core and extended technology Management

Provide and report technology metrics daily, weekly, and monthly as required. Plan, direct, implement, develop, configure transportation software to meet internal and external goals and objectives. Manage projects effectively across the network utilizing internal and external resources. Manage core and extended technology partners and vendors in terms of performance to CJ and relationships.

Vendor Management

·    Business Process Integration

Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the customers' supply chain network. Present project findings and deliverables at customer meetings. Create, communicate and implement transportation initiatives that result in opportunities to grow/expand the customer relationship, driver operational efficiency, improve service, reduce cost and add value. Build a strong, collaborative relationship with customers through effective communication, problem solving, integration, innovation, information management, and access. Assess and understand the customers & business requirements and translate their needs within CJ Logistics America. Act as the lead Transportation communications resource to keep senior management appraised of customers’ performance and systems integration status.

·    People Development and Culture

Drive positive business results by building an engaged and talented team. Drive a culture of accountability by setting clear expectations and providing direction and feedback to all staff. Collaborate with leadership and human resources to establish a culture where employees are respected, challenged, and provided the resources to accomplish their objectives. Manage cross-functional teams to include external third-party contractors, consultants, customers, and suppliers to ensure our processes, applications, and presentation of information meet the changing needs of the operation and our customers. Evaluate configurations, system utilization, and training needs; select, develop and implement training as required.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation management, to include a combination of any of the following: transportation analysis, planning, operations, or managing transportation management systems and super users
  • Knowledge of supply chain technology with an emphasis on Transportation Systems and related technologies, MercuryGate experience preferred
  • Experience in engagement with multiple management levels across technical users and business units
  • Experience in creating/maintaining as-built documentation owned jointly across a multitude of levels
  • Ability to work well and deliver under pressure
  • People/stakeholder management skills
  • Strategic planning, budgeting, and operations within a transportation management department
  • Project initiation and prioritization processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build consensus and provide thought leadership on transportation business strategy
  • Ability to professionally represent CJL to internal and external constituents for training, sales, and relationship building purposes
  • Strong leadership capabilities

  • Knowledgeable of logistics center operations with a basic understanding of warehousing, inventory, order fulfillment, customer service, and transportation
