Summer Transportation Intern - Des Plaines, IL

As a Transportation Intern, you’ll be the face of our commitment to excellence in the carrier procurement and performance team, supporting the vital work of managing CJ Logistics America’s carrier base. You'll work closely with the Carrier Procurement team, assist in rate negotiations, and help shape a carrier experience that's second to none.

- Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Compensation: $17.78 - $19.23 per hour
What You’ll Be Doing:
The intern will take on the responsibilities of a Carrier Performance Analyst with a focus on:
- Building and maintaining relationships with existing carriers
- Monitoring and analyzing carrier performance utilizing carrier scorecards
- Assisting in the management of corrective action plans
- Procuring transportation services by utilizing benchmarks and supporting rate negotiations
- Acting as a support and escalation point to resolve service and operational issues between carriers and internal teams
- Managing carriers to ensure compliance to government regulations and CJ Logistics America policies
- Communicating market conditions that may impact capacity, cost, and service
- Assisting in the management of network, ad hoc, and lane level RFP’s (Requests for Proposal)
- Utilizing carrier management applications like highway and Carma
- Supporting the creation and management of route guides and managing spot loads (bid board)
- Additional job duties as assigned

What You Bring:
- High school degree required
- Currently working towards a bachelor’s degree
- Concentration in Logistics, Transportation, or Supply Chain Management is preferred
- Competency in Microsoft Office and Google applications
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion and function independently within authorized limits
