High School Apprentice - Welder
Description
Chief Buildings is seeking a Welder Apprentice to join the Chief team. This entry-level role is part of a registered apprenticeship program designed to provide hands-on training in the welding trade. As a Welder Apprentice, you will work under the guidance of experienced welders, lead personnel, and designated mentors to develop foundational skills in welding techniques, safety practices, and fabrication processes. To be successful in this role, you should be eager to learn, safety-conscious, and committed to growing within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate basic understanding of hand tools, including accurate use of tape measures.
- Assist in interpreting fabrication drawings and data sheets for weld assembly.
- Support welding operations by preparing materials, setting up equipment, and performing basic torch and grinding tasks (training provided).
- Adhere to all quality control procedures and safety standards to ensure consistent and compliant work.
- Maintain AWS welding certifications and meet or exceed minimum Ultrasonic Inspection (UT) pass ratio within the designated timeframe.
- Operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently, including forklifts and overhead cranes (if 18 years or older).
- Accurately complete all routine paperwork and computer-based data entry.
Education:
- Current high school student
Qualifications and Skill Requirements:
- Basic math skills, including fractions and decimals.
- Familiarity with hand tools and a willingness to learn technical processes.
- Basic computer and written communication skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and interest in developing welding skills through hands-on training.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for creating a collaborative, safe and hazard-free environment that is driven by employee involvement. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to leading departmental continuous improvement projects, supporting and executing all safety and health policies and programs, employee training and incident investigations.
