Maintenance Manager

Chief Carriers is seeking a Maintenance Manager to join the Chief team. This position oversees preventative maintenance operations of fleet, while leading a dedicated team of technicians and support staff. This position will ensure the efficiency, safety, and reliability of our vehicles through effective planning, supervision, and execution of maintenance activities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance programs for trucks and trailers to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify maintenance needs and prioritize repairs.
  • Coordinate with drivers and dispatch to schedule maintenance and repairs, minimizing disruptions to operations.
  • Manage a diverse team of technicians and support staff, including diesel technicians, a shop foreman, trailer technician, tarp repair tech, parts manager, and service writer.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to ensure high levels of performance, productivity, and morale within the team.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of assignments.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and operational efficiencies to optimize maintenance operations.
  • Provide guidance on current and future fleet equipment specifications and related technology for possible purchase.
  • Implement quality control measures to uphold the highest standards of workmanship and reliability in vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs for regulatory compliance and reporting purposes.


Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

  • Associate of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science in Diesel Technology or related field.
  • Must possess or be able to possess a Certified Director of Maintenance/Equipment (CDM/E) designation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance management, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry. 
  • Proven leadership skills with experience supervising and motivating a diverse team of technicians and support staff. 
  • Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, truck and trailer systems, and maintenance practices.  Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software applications. 
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements governing commercial vehicle maintenance and safety standards.
