High School Apprentice - Machine Operator

Chief Buildings is seeking a Machine Operator Apprentice to join the Chief team. This entry-level role is part of a registered apprenticeship program designed to provide hands-on training and skill development in machine operation. As a Machine Operator Apprentice, you will work under the guidance of experienced operators, lead personnel, and designated mentors to learn the trade and gain practical experience in a manufacturing environment. You will be actively involved in day-to-day operations, learning to operate machinery safely and efficiently while supporting production goals. To be successful in this position, you should be eager to learn, safety-conscious, and committed to developing a long-term career in manufacturing.
Job Responsibilities:
- Operate various fabrication machines such as punch presses, shears, and press brakes with precision and safety.
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings to ensure accurate production and adherence to specifications.
- Set up tooling and perform routine machine maintenance while understanding machine capacity and operation.
- Maintain high standards of quality and productivity in all assigned tasks, including accurate data entry into computer-based systems.
- Safely handle materials using forklifts and overhead cranes (for individuals 18 years of age or older), supporting efficient workflow and production.
Education:
- Current high school student.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements:
- Basic math skills, including the ability to work with fractions and decimals.
- Fundamental computer literacy and clear written communication skills.
- Familiarity with hand tools and a willingness to learn and apply technical processes.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and eager to grow within a hands-on work environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for creating a collaborative, safe and hazard-free environment that is driven by employee involvement. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to leading departmental continuous improvement projects, supporting and executing all safety and health policies and programs, employee training and incident investigations.
