Payroll Manager
Description
- Lead end-to-end multi-state payroll processing, reconciliation, and reporting, including salaries, benefits, leave, loans, garnishments, taxes, and other earnings and deductions.
- Maintain and enhance payroll procedures, internal controls, and documentation to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
- Oversee employee payroll record maintenance, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and other pay-related updates.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, ensuring timely, accurate, and customer-focused support and training.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll reporting related to gross pay, taxes, benefits, and statutory filings.
- Manage timely and accurate resolution of agency notices in partnership with third-party payroll vendors.
- Support internal and external audits, providing documentation and ensuring appropriate system controls and access.
- Develop training materials and communication programs to educate people leaders and employees on payroll processes, requirements, and best practices.
- Ensure accurate tax treatment and reporting of cash and non-cash fringe benefits, partnering as needed with Corporate Tax and Global Mobility.
- Identify and implement process improvements to drive accuracy, efficiency, and employee experience.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- 8–10+ years of progressive U.S. payroll experience within complex, multi-state environments.
- Deep knowledge of payroll operations including preparation, reconciliation, compliance, internal controls, and payroll tax requirements.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws, wage and hour regulations, and statutory reporting.
- Demonstrated experience with process optimization, workflow documentation, and employee or manager training.
- Advanced proficiency with ADP Workforce Now (Time & Attendance and Payroll required). Workday experience preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills—particularly Excel—with the ability to analyze, interpret, and present payroll data.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and stakeholder-management skills.
- High integrity, strong judgment, and a commitment to confidentiality and discretion.
- Experience working in a regulated or public company environment is a plus.
