Sports Multimedia Journalist
WRAL News is looking for a seasoned journalist to report across multiple platforms and help reinvent our sports coverage. Candidates must be passionate about breaking and enterprising stories. Digital contributions are expected daily. Embracing and effectively using social media are essential to succeeding in this job.
If you are a visual storyteller who wants to surround yourself with the team and technology to help improve your photography, storytelling, and digital skills, this may be the job for you. A qualified candidate must be able to shoot, write, and edit sports stories and contribute to special projects. The on-air reporting role is critical and demands confident, smooth presentation skills during live newscasts and shows.
The ability to anchor sportscasts is a plus. Exceptional writing skills, solid news judgment and a strong sense of visual storytelling are essential. This individual must be a self-starter who cultivates sources and finds new information as a regular part of the job. We’re seeking someone with lots of ideas on how to produce sports in new ways across platforms.
Background must include regular updating and posting to the web. Writing weekly columns is an essential part of the job. Being active across social media is also significant. At least five years previous experience in television sports, including photography, non-linear editing experience, and a four-year college degree are required.
This person must be able to travel on assignment and possess a wide range of technical skills to include expert photography and editing skills, experience using backpack live units, and the ability to troubleshoot on the fly.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work in areas and conditions that are often noisy, have many distractions, and in extreme weather. Must have manual dexterity to operate camera and editing equipment. Must be able to move quickly inside and outside on uneven, unfamiliar terrain and areas, and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry and move with up to 50lbs in many environments including outdoors and in extreme weather conditions.
