The Director, HR Business Partner will provide HR leadership for BioMarin’s APAC region including all functions (Commercial, Corporate Groups, WWRD, TOPS) across six countries.  Reporting to the Executive Director, HR for Global Commercial Operations & Corporate Groups, this individual will be a key member of the global HR team to partner with leaders on areas such as talent management, succession planning, team effectiveness, change management and coaching. They will also help drive business-wide HR priorities including cutting edge projects in the areas of the Future of Work, Workforce Strategy, DEI initiatives and Managerial Capabilities in support of the overall Employee Experience.


  • Managing a range of human resources activities, this role will provide proactive HR leadership and consultation supporting managers and employees across the organization in APAC
  • Develops, implements and leads the Human Resources function to support the business objectives and the company’s HR strategy and programs
  • Serves as an integrated part of the organization, working with and advising the managers of respective client groups to align with and assist in accomplishing broader business objectives
  • Leads market development in terms of people with ongoing talent acquisition efforts for the APAC region and develops a talent acquisition & retention strategy that will serve current and future talent needs as per business objectives
  • Partners with the HR COEs to deliver customized regional programs and services to the business in the areas of Talent Development, DEI, Talent Acquisition, etc.
  • Working closely with Compensation and Benefits COEs, evaluates and implements Compensation and Benefits structures and programs which address local condition for markets in APAC while maintaining alignment with the company’s overall compensation and benefits philosophy
  • Drives culture shaping, organizational development and change management strategies aligned to overall business objectives
  • Provides leadership to the region as a member of the APAC Leadership Committee
  • Manages employee relations issues to successful resolution, ensuring legal compliance and managed business risk through coaching and advising management on best practice by drawing upon professional experience as well as other resources including global HR, local employment laws and practices, regional Legal, and company policies and procedures.
  • Develops and implements company HR policies in countries across APAC
  • Participates in HR and/or cross-functional initiatives that may require taking the lead on special projects within the client group
  • Maintains close relationships with the broader HR team to work in synchronization with other functions, regions


Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • A degree in Business, HR or related field, with a minimum 10 years of relevant experience of increasing responsibility across people functions.
  • Experience supporting a variety of client groups as well as multiple countries in APAC.
  • APAC regional experience and Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry experience preferred.
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can effectively interface and collaborate with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong negotiating, influencing, and consulting skills.
  • Ability to quickly build credibility and trust across the organization.
  • Strategic mindset with strong business acumen to connect dots and consider operational and financial components of broader business objectives.
  • Capacity to manage multiple activities and priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal fluency in English.
