Senior Manager, Digital Communications   
    
The Senior Manager, Digital Communications will play a vital role in telling BioMarin’s story to key audiences across the company’s corporate social media channels and website (BioMarin.com). Reporting to the Senior Director, Digital and Social Media Communications, the position will have responsibility for content strategy and production, as well as maintaining a steady cadence of storytelling content that helps enhance BioMarin’s reputation and drive the company’s strategic objectives.      
    
This individual will help execute the company’s digital content strategy, using a combination of written and visual content, as well as video, to convey BioMarin’s messages across channels. Strong storytelling experience and the ability to create thoughtful and engaging content (graphics, copy, video) for online channels that centers around scientifically driven and patient-focused drug development are required.     
    
This results-oriented will be part of the Corporate Affairs team, combining creativity with analytical thinking and helping the team deliver on its responsibilities.      
    
The Senior Manager will partner closely with other teams across Corporate Affairs, including Global Patient Affairs, and the organization at large, forming the cross-functional relationships necessary to unearth and develop compelling stories. This individual will also have the opportunity to support BioMarin leaders on social media, helping to position them as thought leaders and leverage their followings to amplify corporate messaging.     
   
Responsibilities     
    
  • Lead the development of compelling short-form and long-form content that enhances our corporate reputation and advances the company’s business needs on our website and social media channels     
  • Oversee the development and execution of integrated digital/social media strategies that advance BioMarin’s business objectives and further promote and protect our brand     
  • Manage editorial calendars, content assignments, copy editing, approval and clearance, and feedback     
  • Maintain editorial standards and guidelines for corporate external digital communications     
  • Help enable executive social and employee ambassador programs to amplify company messaging to key audiences     
  • Work closely with agency PR partners to ensure activities (unbranded and branded) adhere to regulatory and legal guidelines, are in line with product communication strategy, are completed on-time and within budget     
  • Provide and develop engaging, relevant and timely ideas for editorial content in partnership with cross-functional partners to elevate and enhance BioMarin’s corporate reputation     
    
Requirements     
    
Our ideal candidate has:     
    
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 + years of related experience in journalism, communications, public relations, biology or related field     
  • Communications experience in the biopharma industry at a publicly traded company     
  • Experience providing editorial direction for a global, dynamic organization; capacity to manage an editorial calendar and news flow process      
  • Working knowledge of FDA and EMA regulations as applied to the communication of investigational and marketed drugs and a good understanding of public policy challenges currently affecting the healthcare industry    
 
    
  • Knowledge of and experience with multiple online channels (web, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, mobile devices), with a track record of growing and engaging online audiences     
  • Experience working with interactive marketing agencies and advertising agencies, with a knowledge of AP style and principles of writing for the Web/rich media     
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and cross-functionally     
  • High level of professionalism and confidence to work effectively with and influence employees at all levels of the organization, including senior leaders, functional managers and research scientists     
  • Basic technical proficiency on social channels and other key software such as SharePoint, social media publishing platforms, content management systems, etc., is a plus
