Senior Category Manager, Single Use Technologies:
As Senior Category Manager, you are part of the Global Sourcing and Procurement (GSP) organization accountable for driving and delivering procurement value across a group of suppliers, to support stakeholders’ and organizational strategic objectives.
 
The GSP function delivers value to BioMarin by leveraging market intelligence, subject matter expertise, and business insights, in the procurement of goods & services and management of BioMarin’s third party spend. Through collaboration with our external suppliers and internal business partners, GSP helps bring innovative new medicines to patients.
 
Category Managers are responsible for developing category strategies and executing the category strategy projects in partnership with functional stakeholders. The role reports performance against targets and KPIs, executes sourcing and new material creation processes, and facilitates supplier business reviews, including supplier scorecards. The role supports contract life cycle management, leads contract negotiations, and helps to ensure contract value realization and supplier performance through effective supplier management.
 
The Senior Manager, Single Use Technologies (SUT’s), is responsible for Filters, BioProcess Containers, BioProcess Assemblies, Reusable Tubing Assemblies, and some Consumables. This role supports BioMarin’s growing internal Drug Substance and Drug Product Manufacturing, and occasionally C(D)MO. The role builds strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Technical Development, and Manufacturing Sciences and Technology (MSAT), and strives to ensure continuity of supply, meet compliance and quality requirements, and achieve product lifecycle milestones.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop category strategy:
    • Develop in-depth knowledge of category specifications, BioMarin products, and processes and regulatory requirements.
    • Works in collaboration with key business functions, to drive execution of category strategy projects and programs, including drafting and socializing project charters.
    • Utilize spend analytic and market intelligence tools to identify innovation and efficiency opportunities which optimize total cost of ownership, drive cost savings and mitigate risk.
    • Work in partnership with stakeholders to identify and prioritize a multi-year project pipeline that deliver value/savings for the business.
    • Maintain in-depth understanding of supplier capabilities, capacity, and overall financial stability, to effectively differentiate suppliers, in both current and future states, and support preferred supplier selection.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of supply contracts:
    • Negotiate and manage supplier contracts, in partnership with Legal, which meet stakeholder / business needs.
    • Ensure compliance to contracting policy, and compliance with established contracts.
    • Ensure contracts are robust and comprehensive.
  • Stakeholder relationship management:
    • Develops and maintains strong supplier relationships (SRM), and effectively represents the business from an enterprise perspective.
    • Lead cross functional category team meetings, actively participate in RMAB, and Supplier Review governance team meetings in support of their strategic objectives.
    • Facilitate resolution of supplier issues. Work closely with all related internal functions including Engineering, Manufacturing, MSAT, Technical Development, Quality, Compliance, Legal, and Regulatory Affairs.
    • Supports new product introduction and tech transfer initiatives.
    • Leverage functional scorecards, metrics, and other vehicles to measure and report performance including supplier performance and value realization.
  • Others:
    • Manages data integrity within PowerBI, Microsoft Lists, Veeva, GEP Smart, Coupa, Oracle (pricing, vendor master, taxonomy, ASL, supply allocation).
    • Support new item creation process, ASL, SCNs, supplier investigations/deviations, and ensures CRs and Deviations are closed on time.
    • Effectively execute sourcing process for goods and services, including supplier evaluation, selection and contracting.
    • Supports regulatory projects, business continuity management, incident response teams, and CMC/Process Development initiatives.
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization in the enhancement of functional processes and systems.
    • Domestic and International travel <10%.
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Demonstrated understanding of fundamental procurement process knowledge, including contracting, supplier relationship management, market analysis, strategic planning, category value chain, etc.
    • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, supply chain, or life sciences; MBA/MS desirable, C.P.M. desirable.
    • 7+ years strategic procurement experience with extensive knowledge and experience in category management, sourcing, and contract negotiations and supplier management.
    • 5+ years in biotech / life sciences industry. Technical and/or sourcing experience for packaging and devices desirable.
    • Basic understanding of GMP manufacturing processes and regulations
    • Strong leadership and communication skills, including solid interpersonal, analytical and presentation skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to understand and operate within ambiguous situations, in order to recognize complex problems, identify solutions and associated risks, and influence others towards problem mitigation/resolution beyond the obvious.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability for contract negotiation planning, execution, and compliance.
    • Experience leading and participating on cross-functional and global teams.
    • Able to develop solutions to complex problems and ensures solutions are consistent with organizational objectives.
    • Exercises independent judgement in methods, techniques, and evaluations criteria for obtaining results.
    • Demonstrates influence on overall department objectives and long-range goals of the organization.
LOCATION:
  • Novato, CA requiring 2x weekly onsite & according to business needs.  Preferred.
  • Will consider virtual however if applicant lives within 100 miles of Novato, CA than role reverts hybrid.
