Position Summary
The Custodian I is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment across the facility. This role supports daily custodial operations by performing routine cleaning, waste removal, basic facility upkeep, and reporting any maintenance or safety concerns. The position requires attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions, and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Properly remove trash and other waste streams and ensure correct disposal
- Clean floors, walls, touch surfaces, glass, hallways, restrooms, break rooms, cafeterias, equipment, and indoor/outdoor common areas
- Maintain cleanliness in high‑traffic areas while following company quality standards
Facilities & Safety Support
- Report facility, maintenance, or safety concerns to the Supervisor
- Follow all safety procedures and correctly wear required PPE
- Comply with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidance for cleaning products and chemicals
Operations & Teamwork
- Receive and follow verbal and written instructions
- Demonstrate effective teamwork and communication with employees of diverse backgrounds
- Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and other cleaning machinery
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
Preferred
- Prior custodial or facilities experience
- Basic computer skills (email and data entry)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High attention to detail and strong follow‑through
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain professionalism and positive working relationships
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and ramps
- Ability to lift, move, or adjust objects up to 40–50 pounds
- Ability to wear PPE for most of the workday
- Ability to operate custodial equipment and machinery
Additional Information
- No travel required
- Custodial experience is preferred but not required
- Training provided
