Environmental Safety, Health and Quality Manager

Environmental / Environmental Remediation Burlingame, California Lakewood, Colorado


ECC is seeking a Environmental Safety, Health and Quality Manager. This position is primarily responsible for comprehensive oversight of health & safety and quality control requirements as defined by Company standards and contractual obligations for a large environmental and radiological services project in the Western US. In this position you will: 

  • Oversee and manage the environment, safety, health and quality for the project on-site.
  • Ensure that radiological, industrial hygiene, and occupational saftey services are performed per ESH & Q standards
  • Support integrated work control program through engaging management, technical staff, and operations personnel for all phases of project
  • Establish and maintain integrated safety management system for all tasks and phases of the project to ensure environmental and worker safety and quality.
  • Establish and maintain conduct of operations program to ensure safety, quality, and compliance for all phases of the work.
  • Verify that quality control related or health and safety related documentation is included in close-out documentation packet
  • Review and conduct appropriate follow-up on Quality Control or Health & Safety Incident Reports.
  • Ensure adherence and staff alignment with Quality Control or Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Make recommendations for improvements and revisions as needed
  • Represent the Company with credibility and professionalism in client meetings, inspections, and project related engagements
  • Conduct periodic on-site surveillance of project activities, developing reports in a timely manner, and following through to closure
  • Initiate required follow up, notice of correction action, and feedback to applicable project team members
  • Report departmental metrics supporting the ESQ strategic plan
  • Provide ongoing status updates to senior management
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize work assignments for the department, delegating tasks appropriately to staff members
  • Collaborate with Human Resources in selection and placement of new staff members
  • Ensure that staff receives training, career development, performance management, and coaching to effectively perform within the organization
  • As required, serve as an on-site project leader
  • In addition to the accountabilities above, other responsibilities, tasks, and deliverables may be assigned to the incumbent of this position


  • Must be able to successfully interpret and communicate regulations and company/customer environmental safety & health, quality assurance, and radiological control requirements.
  • Ability to interface on a daily basis with personnel in regards to customer environmental safety & health, quality assurance, and radiological control.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions
  • Experience using industrial hygiene and radiological instruments
  • Must be capable of working independently
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Must be able to multi-task including multiple projects while meeting  deadlines
  • Experience with industrial hygiene monitoring equipment
  • First Aid/CPR/AED
  • Education / experience: A Bachelor of Science degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience.  (A combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in hoisting and rigging operations and/or heavy equipment certifications desired
  • Certification in Applied Health Physics (CHP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is desired.
  • DOE experience expected

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • This position requires the ability to utilize a keyboard and similar equipment typically found in an office environment. In addition, this position requires the following:
  • Frequent exposure to repetitive motions of the wrists or hands
  • The ability to view a computer monitor and distinguish figures or symbols
  • Sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, for extended periods of time as needed
  • Travel domestically and internationally to office locations and project related meetings
  • Incumbents in this position must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Exposure to adverse environmental conditions (radiological and physical)
