Spiceworks is the online hub for everything IT, bringing together community, tech news and insights, research, and tools for the busy IT professional. Known primarily for its vibrant online community, Spiceworks (www.spiceworks.com) is looking for an experienced and visionary Editor-in-Chief to lead our editorial arm, Spiceworks News & Insights, to further grow our audience, and establish us as a must-read for IT.
As the Editor-in-Chief of Spiceworks News & Insights, your role will be to shape and redefine the voice and direction of our website, with the goal of doubling our audience in the first 12 months. By establishing and implementing the right strategy, enforcing operational discipline, and leading with both inspiration and accountability, you will ensure the creation of high-quality trending tech news, engaging content, insightful articles, how-tos, and other valuable resources to drive sustainable growth.
The ideal candidate is tech-savvy and passionate about growing audiences, with years of hands-on experience in digital publishing and leading editorial teams. We are looking for a candidate who is excited about creating valuable content for IT professionals and can create a brand voice that is engaging, authoritative, and stands out among the often dry tech news published by competitors.
Candidate must also be comfortable working with commercial and sales teams to align editorial focus and coverage with sales clients' needs and develop innovative editorial products to support commercial endeavors such as events, client research, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy that positions Spiceworks to double our audience in the first 12 months of execution.
Editorial Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of editors, writers, and contributors. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging creativity and high standards of journalistic excellence.
Content Creation: Oversee the creation, editing, and publishing of high-quality articles, news stories, features, and multimedia content. You must be comfortable with trending news workflows.
Unique Voice: Develop and grow the website’s unique voice, which will delight readers, differentiate it from competitors, and align with the site community. Ensure content is consistent in tone, style, and branding.
Audience Engagement: Understand our audience's needs and preferences. Use analytics and feedback to refine content strategies and enhance reader engagement. You must know SEO best practices and be comfortable leveraging social media, newsletters, and other tactics to drive audience growth.
Collaboration with Sales: Work closely with commercial and sales teams to ensure content aligns with the organization's monetization strategy. Build and maintain relationships with industry experts, influencers, and partners.
Innovation: Drive continuous improvement in content creation processes and explore new formats and channels for content distribution.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of editorial experience at an online publisher, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role, ideally within professional media.
Skills:
Proven track record leading an editorial team and significantly growing site traffic
Strong editorial judgment and writing/editing skills
Prior experience with trending news workflows
Ability to lead and inspire a diverse team
Excellent understanding of SEO, content marketing, and audience development
Proficiency with content management systems (CMS) and analytics tools
Strong project management and organizational skills
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Note: Disclosure as required by NYCHRL, the base salary range for this role when being performed in the City of New York is up to $140,000. Compensation for this business unit specific role is based on a variety of factors including experience, scope of the role, capabilities to perform the role, as well as business & company performance.
