The Opportunity

Come join IGN Entertainment as an Engineering Manager, where you'll be a part of a dynamic group of departments that lead a strategic portfolio of products, systems, and initiatives. You will develop a team of developers to build new products, automate workflows, integrate systems, and provide tools that are core to IGN’s growth.
This is an internal-facing role where your customers are your coworkers, including people in Publishing, Commerce and Subscriptions, Advertising, Game Help, Sales, and Marketing. This role is a great fit if you have a passion for quality software design,  enjoy coding, enjoy working with people, and have an interest in management.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead 3-5 Engineers.
  • Work closely with Product Development and Business Intelligence departments to translate business needs into actionable requirements
  • Help create and maintain coding best practices and design standards
  • Effectively manage a project plan and prioritize needs based on impact and value
  • Ask questions and become the internal subject matter expert of your products, how they are used, and how they connect within the system of internal tools
  • Conduct code reviews

Job Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience as a software developer. Ideally in Node.js (Express/React), Python and/or PHP
  • Solid understanding of software development best practices and design standards. Passion for crafting reliable, maintainable and extensible code
  • Software management experience is preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with React, Kafka/Kinesis, AWS, and containerization (Docker & Kubernetes) is a plus
  • Knowledge of data management using SQL databases, with a preference for PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Strong understanding of caching strategies in web applications, both application-level caches and CDN caching. API design (GraphQL) with JWT authentication.
  • Very meticulous and thorough in your work.
  • Experience with online advertising, e-commerce or subscriptions
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in a STEM field or equivalent self-study of computer science preferred
  • You have keen instincts for analytical analysis, technical judgment, and risk assessment
  • You have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and you can get along well with people in both a requirements-gathering and customer service context.
  • Experience working with integrations between systems, both internally and externally
  • Proven track record to understand and improve complex systems, paring a solid grasp of strategic considerations with an eye for critical details
  • Able to communicate clearly and maintain good relationships with others

Ziff Davis provides a range for the base pay. Factors that may be used to determine your actual pay may include your specific job related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The base pay for this position ranges from $175,000 to $180,000, plus incentive compensation (for eligible roles only), 401K with company match, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, short and long-term disability, and a flexible time off policy.
