Uplight is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and experienced Engineer, Market Services  to program and support solutions for the integration of our advanced Energy Internet Platform with upstream energy markets. This role is 100% remote with up to 10% travel required.  This role reports to the SCADA Engineering  Manager and is expected to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation with the other members of the team.  
The work consists of roughly 75% new development, including solution development of SOAP web service integrations with upstream markets and Ignition SCADA platform programming and configuration.  
The other 25% of the work is support and troubleshooting of this development work and of existing systems, and involves Linux system administration, networking and VPN infrastructure, and cloud application integrations.  A strong grasp of all relevant technologies and concepts is required.  
 
What you will contribute:  
  • Design and implement integrations with energy markets, utilizing SOAP web services with WS-Security, XML, and other integration patterns 
  • Design and implement solutions using the Ignition SCADA application software 
  • Provide phone, email, and/or in person support for integrations 
  • Develop and/or improve on existing techniques and processes 
  • Additional duties and responsibilities, as assigned
What you bring to Uplight:  
  • 5+ years' experience in a similar role 
  • Able to implement SOAP Web Service clients and services leveraging WS-Security, over secure connections 
  • Facility with public-key infrastructure (PKI) concepts and their usage, including mTLS, keystores and truststores, certificate chains, server and client X.509 certificates, openssl, keytool, file formats such as PEM, DER, PKCS #12, and other related tools and technologies 
  • Familiarity with Linux system usage, configuration, networking, and shell scripting with proficiency in the use of tools like netstat, tcpdump, ssh tunneling, etc. 
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment 
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a geographically distributed team environment 
  • Ability to work on-call 
Bonus points: 
  • Proficient in Java programming, especially Spring-based SOAP web services 
  • Proficient in Python 
  • Proficient with SQL and relational databases 
  • Experience with energy markets (ERCOT, PJM, CAISO) 
  • Certification (any level) or experience on the Ignition SCADA software platform 
  • SCADA programming experience in the electric power industry 
  • Experience working with OPC UA, Modbus, DNP3, IEC 104, ICCP, Kafka, and/or MQTT
  • A background in electric power generation and/or energy market concepts is a plus.
