WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a Corporate Generalist Lawyer to join our in-house Legal team and support our APAC business. This role will work closely with all departments across our APAC offices and provide support to our AMERs and EMEA teams. The role will focus on:
- Negotiating commercial contracts with clients and suppliers;
- Providing data privacy and compliance advice for our events and programmes;
- Supporting human resources matters; and
- Providing general corporate legal advice across a broad range of topics.
YOU SHOULD HAVE
- A JD, LLB or LLM (or equivalent) qualification;
- Admission as a lawyer and a current practising certificate issued in New South Wales;
- 5+ years’ generalist legal experience, preferably including commercial transactions, corporate litigation, employment law and/or technology and information security;
- Willingness to learn new areas of law or deepen existing knowledge where prior experience may be limited;
- Ability to negotiate complex agreements through sophisticated client legal and procurement departments, including Fortune 500 companies;
- Demonstrated ability to learn business requirements quickly, analyse legal and commercial risks, and propose creative solutions while minimizing risk;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build trust with our internal business teams to successfully work through contract challenges, effectively and concisely communicate complex legal issues to a non-legal audience, both orally and in writing, and work effectively as a Legal Department teammate, with the flexibility to take lead or provide support on projects as needed;
- Ability to assess, calibrate, communicate, and address evolving priorities in a dynamic environment;
- Initiative, attention to detail and collaborative working style; and
- Desire to learn from and teach your Legal Department teammates and employees throughout the company.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyse, present, and advise on corporate and business law issues;
- Transactional work - draft, negotiate and advise on Service Agreements, Statements of Work and other contracts with clients and suppliers for event management, production, creative, digital, advertising and strategy services;
- Technology and Information Security – review and negotiate software licenses and SaaS contracts for business infrastructure and event technology; Data Protection Agreements with clients and suppliers; program risk assessments; advise on technology and data security topics related to virtual and in-person events;
- Corporate matters - governance, commercial leases, litigation, employment, and insurance;
- Ensure compliance with privacy and industry laws;
- Effectively manage time and priorities, in a high-volume, fast-paced environment;
- Clearly explain contracts, risks, requirements and regulations to non-legal colleagues;
- Collaborate in drafting, updating and enforcing policies and guidelines with your teammates and coworkers alike;
- Research and proactively identify emerging or unique legal issues;
- Facilitate compliance and legal training
- Perform other duties as required.
