The Company’s foundational asset is the long-life, low-cost Gibraltar copper mine (75% owned) in south-central British Columbia, for which it has won numerous environmental and safety awards for operational excellence.  Gibraltar is a state-of-the-art facility and the second largest open pit copper mine in Canada, with a 700+ person workforce.  Gibraltar produces an average of 130 million pounds of copper and 2.5 million pounds of molybdenum each year, with mineral reserves sufficient for more than 20 years of future operations.

 

Taseko is also advancing the Florence Copper Project in Arizona – a near-term copper producer with an unparalleled energy, water and GHG profile per unit of production. Florence Copper is a unique ‘in-situ copper recovery’ project which,  once operating, will significantly increase Taseko’s copper production.  Taseko expects to receive its final federal permit for the Florence Copper Project in 2022, after which construction will commence. The project will  have a production capacity of 85 million pounds of copper per year over a 20-year mine life.

 

The Yellowhead Project is a large, long-life copper project that Taseko added to its development portfolio in 2019. Located 150km north of Kamloops in the Thompson-Nicola region of BC, the Yellowhead deposit is similar to the Gibraltar deposit in size and grade. The Company is currently preparing to initiate the provincial and federal Environmental Assessment process for Yellowhead, while advancing technical and other work required to move the project towards production.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Direct accounting, payroll and information system activities, ensuring department goals and objectives are aligned with and support all areas of the business unit. Support business improvement projects across the mine site by providing value add financial analytics and modelling. Manage the annual budget cycle and rolling forecast updates.
  • Manage an effective system of financial and reporting controls, ensuring alignment with corporate policy directives. Optimize and enhance use of existing analytics solutions. Manage the mine site’s audit processes.
  • Liaise with Supply Chain Superintendent ensuring commercial, financial & procurement processes are aligned with internal controls, delegation of authority and purchasing policies.
  • Complete training of the Gibraltar ERP as a Local Crisis Team member within the first two months of assuming this role.

 

 

Professional Experience / Qualifications

 

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • 10 years’ experience in mining or industrial setting in a unionized environment.
  • Solid experience working with ERP systems.
  • Advanced user of financial data and reporting systems such as Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with PowerBI is an asset.
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership experience. Solid organizational and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to liaise with other disciplines is required
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
