About the Role

Reporting to the Manger, Environment and Permitting, the Lead, Environment and Permitting will join a dynamic team working to advance the Yellowhead Project through Provincial, Federal and Indigenous led Environmental Assessment (EA) processes. Based out of the Barriere office, the successful candidate will manage multiple consultants contributing to the EA and ensure deliverables are in alignment with scope, schedule and budget expectations.  The Lead, Environment and Permitting will also lead project permitting, compliance and reporting activities.

While the preferred location for this role is Barriere, BC, consideration will be given to candidates located in Vancouver, BC, with the requirement for regular travel to the Barriere office and project site.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and execution of baseline studies and effects assessments including developing scopes and budgets, evaluating proposals, controlling costs and schedules and coordinating deliverables
• Provide technical oversight and contribute to environmental studies and permit applications
• Establish and maintain reliable systems for collection and validation of data to ensure permit compliance and support corporate sustainability related disclosure
• Work collaboratively with the corporate staff, project staff, consultants and contractors to ensure achievement of environmental study objectives and proactively identify and evaluate opportunities to improve project environmental designs
• Effectively contribute to project environmental strategies, policies, and communications
• Interface and communicate with government, community, and Indigenous stakeholders to advance EA and permitting activities
• Represent the Yellowhead Project at various local and regional business and community events and participate in relevant industry associations
• Stay apprised of existing and pending legislation and regulations which may impact the company’s plans and activities and disseminate information throughout the company

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, biology or a related discipline
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience
• At least 3 years of site-based experience at an operating mine
• Registration with EGBC or relevant professional association within British Columbia

Skills & Competencies

• Intrinsically motivated team player possessing high ethical standards, accountability and integrity
• Clear understanding of Indigenous values and issues
• Proven understanding of the full mining cycle and current BC regulatory framework
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within established timelines and budgets
• Demonstrated ability to identify and implement solutions based on pragmatic, critical thinking
• Clear and concise technical writing and presentation style
• Strong people and project management skills and the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time
• A network of strong contacts within industry and regulatory agencies would be an asset
