The position
This is an intern position offering the chance to support the commercial operations of a vision-driven company at the forefront of the transition to zero carbon energy. It is an opportunity to begin to build the understanding and capabilities needed for a financial and/or commercial career in renewable energy. It requires diligence & reliability, attention to detail, timeliness, curiosity, and analytical ability. It will appeal to penultimate year university students with a passion for renewable energy and a desire to make a positive impact on the world.
The role will:
- Support the efficient operations of the UK&I Commercial team and other teams where needed, including taking on a variety of administrative and logistical work.
- Take on discrete analysis packages under the guidance of analysts/managers.
Accountabilities
Responsibilities will include the following
- Managing Non-Disclosure Agreement processes, ensuring processes progress in good time with appropriate involvement of legal and commercial colleagues and that signed NDAs are filed.
- Maintaining and updating a Salesforce investor tracker and generating analysis where needed, e.g., investor lists for specific transaction.
- Maintaining and updating transaction trackers.
- Maintaining and updating a team events tracker, and notifying responsible colleagues of events.
- Supporting with running financial models and conducting sensitivity analysis.
- Maintaining and updating PPA and M&A deal trackers.
- Researching and producing market, strategic and competitor analysis.
- Maintaining and updating revenue forecast trackers, e.g., wind and solar capture price trackers and energy storage revenue forecasts and supporting with analysis and communication of insights.
The Team
This role sits in RES’ UK&I Commercial team. This team provides commercial services to other units in RES’ UK&I business (Development, Construction, Operations, and Asset Management) with the aim of maximizing value and achieving attractive risk-reward balance across projects and contracts. These services include:
- Financial modelling of wind, solar and storage projects to support decisions during project development and participation in revenue contract auctions;
- Marketing of projects to potential buyers (typically leading infrastructure investment funds or energy utilities) and management of M&A transactions.
- Securing route to market contracts (e.g., through auctions run by Governments or large corporates), power purchase agreements and other revenue contracts.
- Analysis and negotiation of service contracts, e.g., with investment fund counterparties, to asset manage or provide operations & maintenance services for wind, solar and storage assets.
- Strategic, market and risk analysis.
- Maintaining excellent, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders across the industry – investment funds, electricity off-takers, government, trade-bodies, energy networks companies, market analytics providers etc.
