About the Internship

This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside industry professionals, contributing to vital security operations within our department. As part of a dynamic team, the intern will engage in a variety of tasks that support the protection of our organization's digital infrastructure. This role will involve participating in meetings, gathering security data, and contributing to reports that directly influence the department’s security measures. The student will gain hands-on experience in cyber security, developing technical and professional skills that are critical for a future career in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with vulnerability assessments and security audits
  • Analyze security data and prepare reports for internal teams.
  • Research and analyze emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Help with the creation and delivery of training materials on security best practices.
  • Assist in securing systems and data
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the security of new projects.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to ongoing discussions on security improvement
  • Shadow senior team members and assist with day-to-day cyber security operations
  • Support the creation and maintenance of security documentation, including incident reports and security procedures.
  • Participate in the review and analysis of security logs from various systems to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Help with the configuration and implementation of basic security tools and software.
  • Assist in the execution of basic penetration testing exercises under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Learn and familiarize yourself with the company’s security policies and protocols.
  • Perform routine security checks on company systems and help resolve identified vulnerabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
  • Major in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline
  • At least one year of completed coursework

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of common cyber security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001)
  • Familiarity with security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and SIEMs (Security Information and Event Management).
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of cyber risk management
  • Proficient in data manipulation using tools such as Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Internship Details

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
  • The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
  • This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
