Maintenance Group Supervisor (FM3) JFK Airport

 

This position offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to serve as a key member of the Field Maintenance Supervisory team at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The successful candidate will lead a diverse group of maintenance technicians, overseeing day-to-day airfield and landside maintenance operations in support of Port Authority priorities and standards. No two days are the same, as the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the 5,000-acre aviation asset that is John F. Kennedy International Airport – one of the world’s most critical transportation hubs.

 

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the FM-4 Maintenance Unit Supervisor (MUS) or a higher-level supervisor the selected candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of paving mechanics and general maintenance staff. During work shortages or staff absences, the selected candidate may be required to assume the duties of an FM-3 Maintenance Unit Supervisor. The successful candidate must demonstrate technical proficiency in one or more skilled trades, along with a working knowledge of general maintenance operations.  

  • Supervise skilled, semi-skilled, and contract staff engaged in paving/masonry, unit maintenance and regulatory activities.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate and control paving/masonry-related maintenance projects.
  • Provide technical direction and expertise across paving, masonry, bricklaying, fencing, road closures and associated maintenance functions.
  • Estimate, schedule and determine work methods and ensure efficient competent completion of assignments.
  • Ensure assigned personnel achieve required performance standards while maintaining full compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and labor requirements.
  • Administer applicable union contract provisions and absence control policies.
  • Directly oversee routine maintenance, work orders, regulatory compliance work, emergency repair and response operations.
  • Instruct personnel in the proper operation, maintenance, deployment, limitations of special-purpose vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), establish safety protocols to maintain worker and worksite safety.
  • Supervise inspections of facility assets, evaluate asset conditions, and report deficiencies or required corrective actions to supervisory staff.
  • Assess manpower, materials, equipment necessary for the completion of assigned work.
  • Supervise, assist, and direct staff during emergency and after-hours operations as required.
  • Respond to routine requests from facility tenants and aids in accordance with established procedures and best management practices.
  • Review and interpret contract drawings and specifications related to the execution and completion of assigned maintenance activities.
  • Assume the duties and responsibilities of other Maintenance Unit Supervisors when required due to operational needs.
  • Assist in the development, review, and revision of unit maintenance routines and schedules.
  • Modify work schedule to complete job assignments.
  • Supervise snow removal and other weather-related or emergency response activities.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and deliver training in compliance with federal, state, local, and agency requirements for new hires and assigned personnel.

The successful candidate must be able to pass a fingerprint-based Criminal History Check as mandated by 49CFR 1542 and will be required to obtain and maintain an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) ID card with DR-2 Airfield Driving and escort privileges.

The selected candidate is required to participate in the Airport Snow Removal Program and must be able to respond to other emergency activities on a 24 hour/7 day a week basis.

B Shift: 6am-2:30pm, Monday to Friday; Shift rotates to night shift among other FM3.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience, with one (1) year of paid full-time supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.
  • All applicants that meet the above qualifications and have been selected for an interview, must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test prior. This test assesses supervisory skills and will be administered virtually.

 

Desired Qualifications

 

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • In depth knowledge of aeronautical and landside areas on the facility.
  • Familiarity with key airport stakeholders around the facility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the CMMS system and its use to accomplish Preventative, Corrective, and Emergency work, including scheduling, work order updating, and labor management.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of internal and external staff.
  • Demonstrated experience with the use of personal computers, including the Microsoft Office suite of tools: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc.
  • Knowledge of snow removal functions at an airport facility.
