About the Internship

The Enterprise Risk Management Division (ERM), within the Finance organization, is responsible for the development and implementation of an agency-wide program that enables the proactive identification and management of business risks that can affect agency objectives and strategy.  ERM aims to improve agency risk awareness and decision-making.  As consideration in the Port Authority’s bond ratings, ERM is critical to the Agency’s future capital capacity.  ERM is a major initiative that touches all parts of the Agency.  The intern will obtain a unique overview of the Port Authority’s business lines and internal processes while becoming well-versed in the principles of risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Work with ERM staff and senior staff throughout the Agency to identify, assess, and monitor business risks.
  • Support agency business alignment efforts and ERM integration with annual business planning, budgeting, long-range capital capacity forecasting, business performance measurement, and other agency business processes
  • Support execution of risk assessments
  • Conduct research on emerging trends and analyze Agency risk data
  • Develop risk intelligence reports and presentations for the Board of Commissioners and senior management

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
  • Major in Enterprise Risk Management, Finance, Public Administration or related discipline

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively up and down the chain of command by simplifying complex issues for a diverse audience
  • Some knowledge of risk management, finance, or operations
  • Ability to solve problems using quantitative and qualitative data related to operations and finance
  • Ability to conduct Internet research.
  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.

Internship Details

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
  • The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
  • This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In-person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business, and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
