Title: PRN Radiation Therapist - Danbury Hospital Radiation Therapy (Danbury & New Milford) - Per Diem, 8-hour shifts 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday. Must be flexible with days. Provides coverage to both Danbury & New Milford departments.
 
Summary: Administers radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by the radiation oncologist. Participates in planning patients treatment and monitors patient response to treatment. Will work at various locations.

Responsibilities:

1. Administers prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, adequately covering the involved areas by positioning patients for treatment with accuracy using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards.

2. Designs and facilitates daily treatment schedules. Orders, reviews and exports daily treatment charges. 

3. Observes the clinical progress of patients receiving radiation and can recognize signs of treatment complications to know when to withhold treatment until physician is consulted. 

4. Follows department quality control measures for treatment delivery (weekly port films, labs, IGRT imaging and weekly physician management visits). Maintains a neat and acc

5. Performs simulation procedures and constructs immobilization devices. Documents all simulation information/set-up photos needed to prepare a patient charge for treatment. 

6. Performs daily quality control warm-up procedures on linear accelerators and simulator prior to patient procedures. Has full knowledge of linear accelerator controls and can operate and adjust equipment to regulate dosage; can detect unsatisfactory setups and/or errors and reports them promptly and can perform emergency shutdown protocols when needed. 

7. Learns and applies new advances in treatment technology and assists other staff members and follows the principles of radiation protection for patient, self and others. 

8. Assists in follow-up clinic, patient exams and receptionist duties - phone, filing greet patients, scheduling follow-up and consults and simulations. 

9. Maintains patient safety at all times. Able to transfer patients safely to the treatment couch, giving special care to catheter, IV drips, O2 mask, tubes, oxygen tanks and life support systems. 

10. Practice continuing education and fulfills all state and national compliance responsibilities. 

11. Communicates clearly and concisely with all members of the healthcare team, patients and facilities. Practices effective verbal and written communication skills. 

12. Train and supervise student or subordinate radiotherapy technologists. 

13. Educate, prepare and reassure patients and their families by answering questions, providing physical and emotional assistance and reinforcing physician advice regarding treatment reactions and post-treatment care. 

14. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. 

15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Information:

Education & Credentials Required:

  • Associate's degree
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • Radiographer

Radiation Therapist must be graduate of accredited ARRT Radiation Therapy program. Solid computer skills, efficiency and ability to concentrate on tasks. 
Minimum Experience: three years
Desired: Three years minimum experience preferred.

PRN Rate: $59.00 hourly per the contractual TAFT Union grid.
