Responsibilities:

1. Insures proper operation of sterilizer units prior to use on a daily basis.  
2. Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of the day shift. Records results in appropriate log. 3. Inspects gas and steam sterilizer for visible signs of malfunction and reports to charge nurse or Director.  
4. Processes or oversees, all contaminated instruments and supplies returned to Central Service.  
5. Uses knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization.  
6. Processes all items appropriately using either ethylene oxide or steam sterilization.  
7. Maintains appropriate spore testing on routine basis and documents results as required.
8. Assists with clerical work related to the Central Service, as requested.  
9. Applies aseptic techniques in daily work assignments. Performs general cleaning of department surface areas, racks, shelves, storage cabinets and all storage area.  
10. Stores all supplies and equipment; stocks Central Service's dispensing racks.  
11. Knowledgeable regarding handling and care of instruments, tray preparation and special procedure items.  
12. Performs tray assemblage, proper packaging and preparation of all applicable supplies for sterilization. Monitors sterility dates on supplies.  
13. Properly loads, operates and cleans all sterilizers, gas and steam, and all general equipment using biological and chemical control tests as required by department.  
14. Maintains preventative maintenance procedures. Completes repair orders for Engineering Department for any unit found inoperable.  
15. Receives and delivers supplies.  
16. Assists with monitoring and maintaining stock in storeroom.  
17. Performs other related duties as may be assigned.  
18. Orders stock as needed.  
 
Requirements:
Graduate of high school or equivalent.
Minimum of one year experience as Sterile Tech.
Current BLS Certificate.
Sterile Tech Certification Required.
