About the Team

The Dev Extension, Durham, North Carolina-based team is highly passionate and close-knit, composed of talented engineers who manage core Nutanix products, including Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV) Infrastructure, lifecycle management, and networking. Their operation is centered on customer obsession, with a primary focus on resolving customer problems, which involves addressing Customer Escalations to Engineering. The team solves complex technical issues in cutting-edge distributed systems, performing root-cause analysis and corrective actions, developing automation tools to reduce triage time, and ensuring subsequent product and documentation improvements. They foster a culture of transparent knowledge exchange through extensive writing and document sharing to minimize meetings, and they offer unlimited learning opportunities and mentorship from helpful subject-matter experts to support continuous growth.

You will report to the Director of Engineering, who believes in empowering team members through supportive leadership, offering guidance while encouraging independence and initiative. This role operates in a hybrid setup, where the new hire will work both remotely and on-site, with expectations of being in the office several days a week to facilitate collaboration and team engagement.

There are no travel requirements for this position, allowing the new hire to focus entirely on their responsibilities in the office and remote work environment without external travel commitments.

 

Your Role

  • Collaborate with the extended software development team to contribute to software features, bugs, and enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain reliable, field-serviceable, and maintainable software components in a Linux environment using Python, Golang, or C/C++.
  • Engage with customers and support teams to diagnose and resolve production issues, ensuring a customer-oriented approach is prioritized.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of complex distributed systems issues, implementing corrective actions for product and documentation improvements.
  • Build and refine automation tools to enhance efficiency, identify bottlenecks, and reduce triage time within the team.
  • Participate in extensive learning opportunities to quickly assimilate into the team's technology stack and processes.
  • Contribute to cross-functional collaboration with Development, Test, Documentation, and Product Management teams to deliver high-quality products.
  • Achieve deep technical specialization in key areas such as Nutanix AHV, infrastructure, and lifecycle management to drive innovation and product improvement.

 

What You Will Bring

 

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without requiring current or future sponsorship for an employment visa, such as an F-1, H-1B, or TN visa.
  • Have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and 1–2 years of industry experience. 
  • Rock-solid programming ability in Python (preferred), Golang, or C/C++, with a focus on enterprise-quality software development.
  • Extensive knowledge of UNIX/Linux systems or expertise in Windows for back-end systems programming.
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, VPN, SDN, Micro-segmentation) with troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) or VMware, with a primary focus on Nutanix AHV.
  • Development experience in a distributed systems context, encompassing complex system interactions.
  • Effective collaboration, written, and verbal communication skills in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt, demonstrating passion and high intellectual curiosity in technical problem-solving.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science,  a related technical field, with 1–2 years of relevant experience.

 

Work Arrangement

Hybrid: This role operates in a hybrid capacity, blending the benefits of remote work with the advantages of in-person collaboration. In locations where our workplace policy applies (i.e. San Jose, Durham, Mexico City, Bangalore, Pune, Hoofddorp, Belgrade, Barcelona, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo), employees are expected to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week to foster collaboration, team alignment, and access to in-office resources. The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 102,400 and USD $ 153,600 per year.

However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
