ABOUT THE OFFICE      
The Finance Office plays an integral role in the success of the University ensuring responsible stewardship through financial performance and strategic procurement, with a view to financial sustainability and growth.
The Finance Office implements an operating model that enables a greater level of engagement across the University supporting the identification and prioritisation of initiatives that deliver operational efficiencies, and provide reporting solutions that inform decision-making.
   
ABOUT THE ROLE      
Reporting into the Manager, Financial Reporting, this position will operate under broad direction, supporting the maintenance, integrity, accuracy and timely advice and reporting of financial accounting, statutory compliance, treasury and internal controls.
   
Key Responsibilities 
 
  • Support the audit and year-end processes including preparation of financial statements to deliver exceptional reporting and financial outcomes for the University.
  • Complete and document research into identified financial and taxation implications, and analyse alternative courses of action.
  • Provide analysis and explanation of tax or accounting implications of University initiatives and transactions to the business.
  • Support the monitoring of compliance with the internal financial control systems.
  • Ensure cash forecasting models are accurate to support cash flow, investment and borrowing requirements to maximise financial benefit.
  • Assist in the insurance management process, including annual policy renewals.
  • Ensure correct accounting and reporting for capital assets.
  • Support the Business Partnering Team’s month-end financial accounting processes and timetables.
  • Assist with the review and implementation of all financial accounting, insurance, treasury and tax Policies, guidelines and procedures for improvement and appropriateness.
Qualifications, skills & experience      
 
  • Relevant tertiary qualification, with a CA/CPA level qualification (or progress towards) desired, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in a similar role in a complex organisation, preferably within the higher education sector.
  • Sound knowledge of AASB and IFRS or tax (GST, FBT and Payroll tax legislation) with ability to interpret and operate within University policies and guidelines whilst ensuring that accounting principles and standards governed by AASB and code of ethics governed by Professional Accounting Bodies are adhered to.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and large ERP systems.
  • High-level accountancy, numeracy & reconciliation skills, with demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy with figures.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse information and compile financial reports.
  • Proven ability to problem solve and find innovative solutions to enhance processes and systems to improve financial performance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven experience building collaborative and trusted relationships and the ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
