ABOUT THE OFFICE      
The Finance Office plays an integral role in the success of the University ensuring responsible stewardship through financial performance and strategic procurement, with a view to financial sustainability and growth.
The Finance Office implements an operating model that enables a greater level of engagement across the University supporting the identification and prioritisation of initiatives that deliver operational efficiencies, and provide reporting solutions that inform decision-making.
   
ABOUT THE ROLE      
This position is responsible for ensuring the maintenance, integrity, accuracy and timely advice and reporting of financial accounting, statutory compliance, treasury and internal controls.
This position will report to the Manager, Financial Reporting and operates with a relative degree of autonomy.
   
Key Responsibilities      
  • Prepare and review financial statements, taxation reports to deliver exceptional reporting, and financial outcomes for the University.
  • Identify, analyse and implement new financial, tax or reporting pronouncements and legislation, and actively contribute to dialogue around impacts, implications and recommended actions.
  • Analyse and explain tax or accounting implications of University initiatives and transactions to the business.
  • Oversee the completion of assigned reporting requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure ongoing compliance with the internal financial control systems.
  • Develop cash forecasting models to support long-term cash, investment and borrowing requirements to maximise financial benefit.
  • Support the Business Partnering Team’s month-end financial accounting processes and timetables.
  • Work closely with the auditors during the audit and year-end processes, including planning and delivery of taxation or reporting compliance.
  • Assist with the review and implementation of all financial accounting, treasury and tax policies, guidelines and procedures for improvement and appropriateness.
 Qualifications, skills & experience      
  • CPA/CA or other relevant postgraduate qualifications or progress toward a relevant postgraduate qualification and extensive relevant university experience; or management expertise and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience in a complex organisation providing financial accounting Services
  • Proven knowledge of AASB and IFRS, and GST, FBT and Payroll tax legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including a demonstrated history of building and maintaining productive professional relationships.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to develop detailed reports, briefing papers and other submissions.
  • Demonstrated experience in accurate financial modelling, budgeting and forecasting to support decision making and effective financial management.
  • High-level accountancy, numeracy & reconciliation skills, with demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy with figures.
  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and business requirements.
