Experience: 10+ years of experience, M.S. +8 years of experience, or PhD + 5 years of experience
Minimum Education: B.S. in Engineering, Science, or related field.
Location: Longmont, CO
 
Compensation Range: $140k - $190k depending upon education, skills, and experience.

Our Electro-Optical Software (EO/SW) Engineering team at nLIGHT DEFENSE Systems, Inc. consist of the integration specialists. We expect EO/SW to execute and lead final software and firmware integration for deliverable systems.  EO/SW Engineers learn a wide range of multi-disciplinary tools to effectively integrate and automate our state-of-the-art real time controllers.  This includes integration and test of calibration sequences as well as development and refinement of automation solutions to accomplish the mission.  If you are excited about leading the team responsible for the development and integration of robotic systems that control laser light, then we are the right place for you.  Our work can be nebulous at times, but it is always entertaining, rewarding, and challenging.
 
As the manager for the Electro-Optical Software (EO/SW) Team, your team is comprised of multi-disciplinary minded scientists that are highly trained in the inner workings of laser weapons systems. You will be responsible for effectively tasking the team to serve programs while being a steward for company development. A successful EO/SW Manager will find commonalities among programs to create tasking that best leverages the team. They will also be systematic and well-versed in multi-disciplinary problem solving. EO/SW are often the first to find problems during integration and will also be expected to develop and execute solutions.

Job Description: Work with other discipline leads and program managers to develop tasking and oversee execution of the EO/SW Team. Manage resources to ensure that programs across the company are meeting schedule and technical requirements. Develop the EO/SW team’s capability, and, at times, mentor individuals in their professional development. Act as the voice for your direct reports to efficiently unblock them by obtaining resources, working side-by-side, and breaking down problems. Work with the Software and Firmware team leads to chart the roadmap for the control architecture and foster cross-team collaboration. Document and track progress against requirements and schedule objectives.  Develop requirements and software solutions based on specifications defined by diagrams, documents, and/or example MATLAB or Python code.

  • Experience in task management using GitLab or similar platform.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting experience with the ability to integrate information from multiple sources to reach a solution.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, C#, and/or C++. 
  • Working experience in Adaptive Optical (AO) Systems, High Energy Laser Systems, and/or Large Academic Experiments.
  • Experience leading/mentoring a team to accomplish projects (formally or informally)
  • Ability to problem solve in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Familiarity with MS Office 365 tools.
  • Willingness to engage in topics outside of expertise.
 
Additional Supporting Desired Experience / Capability:
  • Familiarity with real-time hardware.
  • Experience with electro-optical systems including acquisition, pointing, and tracking.
