Job Title: Marketing & Communications Intern
Department/Program: Development and Marketing 
Reports to: Communications Coordinator 
Internship Timeline: September 2025-December 2025 (with opportunity for extension after three months)
Work Location: Portland, Oregon (In-person)
Work Hours: M, W, F (20 hours per week)
Compensation: Unpaid / College Credit 
FLSA status: (non-exempt/hourly)

Job Description
Are you Interested in marketing and communications and passionate about mental health? Morrison Child and Family Services is a 500-employee nonprofit leader in behavioral health with ten different programs serving a wide array of services to more than 8,300 children and families.
The Marketing and Communication Intern will support the Marketing and Communications team with key duties, including content creation, social media management, event planning, writing, media relations, and more. This position will report to the Communications Coordinator and Vice President of Development and Marketing.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Communications Coordinator with marcomms tasks
  • Writing marketing and communications content, including newsletters, blog posts, press releases, and more
  • Creating social media content and assisting with social media campaign strategy and implementation
  • Collaborate with marcomms teams on new ideas, campaigns, and tools for marketing and communications
  • Graphic design help
  • Event planning tasks as needed 
  • Performing general marcomms administrative tasks as needed
  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices. 
  • Participate in staff development, in-services, and training related to workplace effectiveness; model professional behaviors and implement improvements to business practices with awareness of their impact in a trauma-informed behavioral healthcare organization.  

Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Interest in the field of communications
  • Completed or working towards a B.A. in communications, English, Public Relations, or related field
  • Strong communications skills: Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting
  • Strong writing skills
  • Knowledge of social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook
  • Graphic design experience preferred
  • Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and media relations preferred  
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, and Canva preferred

Working Conditions: 
  
EnvironmentWork is done in clinical offices, community settings, including Morrison Residential, administration buildings, public locations, and social service sites. Breaks and meals are subject to interruption. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are critical to address the potential for violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants. 
  
Mental demands: Work assigned is diverse and may involve addressing new and unique circumstances. The work might be unpredictable and disrupts planned tasks, requiring flexible time management. 
  
Physical demands: Ability to remain calm and emotionally available serving youth, adults and or families who have experienced trauma. Proficient with office equipment and physical movement. Ability to perform physical interventions if needed in accordance with program and training. Physical dexterity for reaching, stooping, and repetitive wrist and hand motions.
