About the Program: SAGE
Do you enjoy counseling and supporting youth? Do you find it rewarding to help others? Are you looking for an entry level position in social service with ample opportunities and encouragement for growth?
Our SAGE Youth Residential program provides long-term stabilization for survivors of commercial sexual exploitation (CSEC). Both during their exploitation and prior to it, many of these youth have experienced multiple environmental, social, and biological traumas. This may include sexual abuse, parental neglect and/or abuse, alcohol/drug dependency or abuse, school failure, and high levels of emotional vulnerability. Our SAGE program serves vulnerable youth in the CSEC population by providing a safe and secure setting in which they can experience Support, Achieve their goals, Grow, and become Empowered.
Job Summary:
On-Call Expectations:
- Definition of the role:
- This role requires very short notice adjustments to the working week and the primary duty is to cover key workers’ (Milieu Counselors) leave, vacation, and sickness, by taking on their role accountabilities.
- Good communication is essential to the role and on-call employees must respond to work requests as outlined in this document.
- Shift Expectations: On-Call MC’s are expected to work 30 hours per month. If there is a temporary situation that arises that might not allow you to work the 30 hours, you are required to communicate that situation to your supervisor and it must be documented and approved [i.e. you have a vacation planned and will not be available for the month of April, or a school project/FINAL exams in May and will only be available to work 1 shift]
Duties and Responsibilities:
- As an on-call MC, you must ensure you are available to be contacted. On-call MC’s must return calls within 1 hour of receiving a call/text/email or voicemail (on days that you have confirmed availability). That does not mean you must be available to come in for a shift within 30 minutes, but it does mean that you must respond to the supervisor reaching out.
- On-call MC’s are required to be accessible if it is necessary for you to be called in for a shift. If, during the on-call period, unforeseen circumstances arise whereby you cannot be reached or are no longer able to respond, you must notify your supervisor immediately. In that case, you would be removed from on-call availability status for the remainder of that day.
- Training Requirements: On-Call MC’s must complete trainings each year, including the SAGE, State Licensing, Joint Commission and Morrison required trainings.
- CPR certification must be kept active (there are options for completing CPR on weekends or weekdays, depending on your schedule)
- CPR & Mandt are in-person trainings, medication shadowing must be completed in person, most other trainings can be completed virtually
- Trainings are not meant to replace shifts that you decline. However, if we do not have shifts available, trainings may be scheduled for you temporarily.
- Availability:
- As an On-Call MC you may change your availability by contacting your supervisor. This communication is expected to occur at least two weeks prior to a scheduled shift.
Experience/Education Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Basic computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, databases and Outlook
- One year of youth experience. Or a combination of education and experience related to working with youth
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bi-lingual in Spanish and English, written, read and verbal. Must clear a language proficiency test for Spanish
Other Requirements:
- Pass a DHS criminal history background
- Valid Driver’s License
Working Conditions:
Environment: Work is done in clinical offices, community settings, including Morrison Residential, administration buildings, public locations, and social service sites. Breaks and meals are subject to interruption. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are critical to address the potential for violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants.
Mental demands: Work assigned is diverse and may involve addressing new and unique circumstances. The work might be unpredictable and disrupts planned tasks, requiring flexible time management.
Physical demands: Ability to remain calm and emotionally available serving youth, adults and or families who have experienced trauma. Proficient with office equipment and physical movement. Ability to perform physical interventions if needed in accordance with program and training. Physical dexterity for reaching, stooping, and repetitive wrist and hand motions.
All Morrison programs and services are accredited by The Joint Commission, a nationally recognized standards-setting and accreditation body for health care. Morrison is also certified as a trauma-informed organization by the Sanctuary Institute. Certification recognizes our dedication to providing a trauma-informed culture and environment for children, families and staff through implementing Sanctuary values, commitments, and tools.
