We are seeking a talented Manager of Development to join our team and lead our skilled developers. The Manager of Development is responsible for leading engineers on the Product & Development Team, which is responsible for customer-facing interfaces including our checkout flow and portal, and key organizational projects, such as our customer onboarding experience.  This person collaborates with a cross-functional team to architect and develop durable, extensible, and secure code. This role requires WordPress development experience, an expert understanding of frontend and backend technologies, automated testing, and CLI skills.  

 This is a permanent, full-time, remote position with a salary of $135K to $150K annually.

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to implementation
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Director, Marketing Operations, and HR in the hiring process, including supporting recruitment efforts, setting standards for rubrics, trials, and acceptance criteria, and supporting developer onboarding efforts
  • Represent the team’s interests in cross-team planning sessions
  • Manage and mentor development resources to maximize productivity and quality for each project
  • Provide timely and accurate communications with business partners.
  • Provide strategic roadmaps for systems and processes and present to business owners and stakeholders
  • Help create & track concrete, objective measurements to organization level goals & KPIs
  • Investigate defects and suggestions for improving internal systems
  • Assists with patch management testing and deployment
  • Determine plans for efficiently incorporating new products into production workflow
  • Reflect on company goals and articulate how engineering work aligns with the broader company vision, goals, and objectives
  • Keep job knowledge current by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications
  • Be responsible for the employee life cycle including; disciplinary actions, performance reviews, goal reaching activities, fostering a positive environment, following company policies, etc.
  • Manage departmental budget in conjunction with company overall budget
  • Participate in the incident management process

 

Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or commensurate experience
  • 10+ years proven development leadership experience, leading, coaching and mentoring developers
  • Well versed in all aspects of Software Development Life Cycles
  • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to lead a large team with a broad array of focus areas
  • Strong business acumen in managing costs, developing business cases, and delivering cost effective solutions
  • Demonstrated success in being a change agent, with a vision to transform internal systems and operations to fully support our customers
  • Ability to delegate to peers or direct reports in a constructive manner
  • Have experience in highly collaborative/open-source communities
  • Strong organizational, administrative and documentation skills

 

To be successful as a Manager of Development on this team you need:

  • Extensive WordPress development experience
  • 5+ years of relevant experience:
    • Experience with developing blocks for the Block Editor
    • Experience with continuous integration and automated deployment pipelines
    • Experience building accessible, performant sites and applications
