The Legal Researcher position will be key to our growing DIY Divorce product initiatives. In this role, you’ll dive into complex legal research to support the creation and iteration of core legal products, including our divorce forms database and divorce filing procedure materials. You feel comfortable using legal databases, analyzing and interpreting statutory requirements, and translating these findings for different stakeholders. You are agile, detail-oriented, and organized.

The Legal Researcher will be joining a fast-paced and high-impact team, and engaging daily with our Divorce Editor, Forms Developers, and Operations team members.

Responsibilities:
- Research, analyze, and report on state, county, and court-specific divorce requirements, including statutes, court rules and procedure, and case law
- Use commercial tools, like Westlaw, to source research findings and example court forms
- Translate research findings into necessary form updates for the Forms Developers
- Support the creation of accessible customer materials informed by research findings
- Communicate research findings to other team members
- Utilize Nolo’s family law consultant network to identify and close research gaps 
- Update and manage Nolo’s own database of legal divorce research

Skills & Abilities:
- Statute & case law research fluency: can conduct complex legal research 
- Excellent written & verbal communicator: can present complex ideas clearly and concisely to different audiences
- Team player: eager to help with any assigned tasks and support team goals
- Agile: able to pivot quickly and incorporate feedback into strategy and implementation
- Organized: can manage different tasks and workflows at the same time
- Analytical: able to analyze research findings deeply and identify inconsistencies or gaps
- Detail-oriented & diligent: can complete tasks thoroughly and with care for detail 

Requirements:
- BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university
- 2+ years of professional legal research experience or a law degree from an ABA-accredited law school and no professional disciplinary history
- Proficiency in legal databases, (ex: Westlaw, LexisNexis)
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Documents, Slides, Sheets, etc.) or Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
- Enthusiasm for fast-paced and highly collaborative team environments
- Bonus: experience or interest in family law
